Pros: "Bullet proof engine"

Cons: "MPG"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 9

"I have owned since new. 83,000 original miles. Replaced tires once, belt twice and air filters every 12K. Regular oil changes and that is it. Rides great, sits up high enough, great visibility. Little rough on MPG but did not expect higher mpg. Oil consumption quart every 1200 miles. Brakes still original and plenty left. The leather interior still in great shape, dash looks new, paint excellent."

"We have had three troopers over the years a1986 4x4 of the year we got it used . Changed our life's . We started camping, kayaking, off-roading .we went to some great spots. We sold it and got a new 1996 loved it. We had to sale it . Missed it so much we went looking for a used one . Came a crossed a new one a 2000 the last year. They made 4 wheel drive Troopers. 14 years later looks great runs great we tow off-road toys with it all the time. Our son dose swimming pools out of it for the time being then back out to the desert for out tow vehicle . Love it ."

Pros: "Great family car! Meets all our needs."

Cons: "Harder and harder to find."

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 5

"I have had this car for 14 years and it is still going strong. It has never left me stranded and has started with the first bump every time I turn the key. The gas mileage is not the best by today's standards, but it has been a top performer. I bought it for the comfort and have never been disappointed."

Pros: "Very reliable. Good visibility."

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"My 2000 Isuzu Outback with a manual transmission is the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned! I have replaced the brakes once, replaced the starter, the CD changer, and replaced the battery a couple of times. That's all, in 13 years! The white paint still looks good. My beige cloth interior looks as good as new. And let me tell you how it does in the snow. A couple of winters ago, myself and some friends rented a cabin in West Virginia. We got snowed in deep. My friend's Toyota pickup could not get out, no matter how much snow he shoveled into the back. My other friend's Suburban could not get out. My Trooper was the only vehicle that could get us out! We just put it in 4WD Low. It has good visibility too. And my dog likes to ride in the back. I have hauled furniture, boards, bicycles, etc. It burns a lot of oil now, but that's nothing for the dependability! I have put 124,000 miles on her."

Pros: "value, reliability, durability, timeless SUV style"

Cons: "Burns oil, more truck-like than car-like ride"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"Original owner of a 99 Trooper with the Premium Package. 140K on it now. Have replaced tires twice, brakes once, CD player, starter, few batteries and belts. That's it in 14 years. This truck is a beast. Hauls everything, blasts through snow, rides pretty well for a true SUV. HUGE sunroof I use year-round. The most reliable vehicle I've ever had. Hoping to pass it down to my son in a few years. Burns through a quart of oil every 1K miles or so, but that's a small price to pay for the overall value and reliability. If you can find a Trooper, buy one. But you can't have mine."
