KBB Expert Review

KBB Editors' Overview

By Editors - Updated Date: 11/13/2012

Infiniti built the 2013 QX56 SUV to take on such giants as the Cadillac Escalade and Lincoln Navigator. But many of its owners compare it equally with more expensive vehicles such as Land Rover's Range Rover and the Lexus LX. Despite a move toward smaller, more fuel-efficient SUVS, Infiniti knows there will always be a large segment of population that needs seating for eight and an ability to pull a luxury powerboat or horse trailer up to 8,500 pounds. But, what the QX really offers its owners is a rolling showcase for Infiniti's unique take on interior design and its impressive arsenal of technological delights.

You'll Like This Car If...

If you need to move a large family, but feel you've earned a status in life that won't accommodate a minivan or base model SUV, the 2013 Infiniti QX56 has both the style and the substance to meet your needs.

You May Not Like This Car If...

Infiniti's QX56 for 2013 is a big, big vehicle. If you're looking for a luxury SUV that can comfortably hold seven passengers but is a bit easier to maneuver, you might be better suited to the smaller, but still luxurious, Infiniti JX.

What's New for 2013

For 2013, Infiniti's Moving Object Detection (MOD) is added to the standard Around View monitor. Other upgrades to the 2013 Infiniti XQ56 include auto-dimming outside mirrors and a revised remote control for the available Theatre Package.

Driving It Driving Impressions

The 2013 Infiniti QX56 is a smooth, luxurious ride befitting the expectations that you would have of a high-end SUV. Road noise is something you won't have to deal with from the cabin. Likewise, you'll hardly notice imperfections in the road itself, thanks to the QX56's fully-independent suspension. The 7-speed automatic transmission is seamless and adds even more refinement to the driving experience. However, we did feel that the QX's steering could be a bit heavier, but we don't believe this will be much of an issue around town.

Favorite Features

The 2013 QX56's option packages are specifically tailored to ensure that the right features are included in the right packages. All of them make perfect sense for the right drivers without adding crippling cost (the most expensive package, and possibly the best, is the $4,100 Deluxe Touring Package).

The idea of the 2013 QX56 as an "executive jet" for the road really helps everything about the SUV make sense. The interior is a finely crafted suite, and with the smoothness of its ride and quietness of its cabin, the QX56 is an idyllic place to be.
