Pros: "good on gas, smooth ride"

Cons: "costly constant repairs, junk car"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 1

"I am the original owner, I bought this 2001 elantra gls brand new this was my 1st brand new car,and all my previous vehicles were used, but I had more problems with this when it was new than I ever had with any of my used cars I purchased, I will never buy another one ever. Once the warranty is up you are in big trouble this has been in the shop for repairs more than usual and very costly, while this was under bumper to bumper warranty the radiator was replaced twice within 6-8 months. I have always kept the car very well maintained and serviced but it has always been a money pit from the beginning. The paint bubbled up near the rear wheels on both sides and I was told by a mechanic that they all seem to rust in that same spot, I got that rust repaired twice since I have had this car, and the bottom is rusting now. Save yourself money problems do not buy this car. The ride is smooth and is good on gas but costly with repairs."

Pros: "Good price, good gas mileage"

Cons: "Lacks power, AC stopped working"

"This car is very reliable, but it lacks power! I had a 1995 mazda mx6 that was a manual like my hyundai elantra which is a 2003, and it had much more power than this car."

Pros: "Most reliable, Very Low maint., great driver."

Cons: "can be a bit cramped for tall people on long drive"

"This car was so reliable it was unbelievable. Sun, rain, ice or snow this car got me from point "A" to point "B" and back without a problem. The only shop time this vehicle ever saw was for general scheduled upkeep as per the owners manual. other than this vehicle being to small for my needs now, I would keep this car and drive it until it dies."

Pros: "Amazing on gas. You can go hours without refuling."

Cons: "Didn't have the auxilary hole for my I-Pod.."

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"This car has driven me across country twice from Virginia to Wyoming and back. It has driven through mountains, plains, in snow, hail, strong hurricane like winds and it is still going. Amazing and completely reliable and yes I am going to be buying another. Why spend a fortune on a big brand name vehicle when you can spend half of that and still get to where you need to go. I love it."

Pros: "Gas mileage, low maintenance, reliable"

Cons: "Road noise"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 9

"We purchased our 2004 Elantra used in 2007, and have put nearly 60k miles on it since. It's been a great commuter car, gas mileage with careful driving running more like 33mpg. Handles well, almost sporty, with good pickup and smooth running up to about 85 mph. We've done the recommended maintenance - fluids, filters, belts - and it still runs like the day we bought it. Only negative is the amount of road noise at highway speeds, but comparable to other cars in the same class. Definitely recommend Hyundai and would buy again."

Solid car for the price, but an accident magnet!

Pros: "Spacious, cheap, dependable, and good acceleration"

Cons: "Outdated = no bells and whistles."

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"I don't drive much, I live within a few miles of place I need to go. I have taken a couple of road trips of over 1,000 miles, and probably 4 or 5 trips that were around 300 miles. As cooky as it sounds. This car became my friend. I took care of it, got the oil changed, tires rotated, and belts replaced when it they were due (not waiting for the car to break down), and in return, I had very few problems. The front and rear suspension "coincidentally" went out while I was having routine maintenance performed. It drove really well. Very good acceleration for such a wimpy engine 138hp. It had a tighter turning radius than most of it's newer competitors including the new Elantra. The only thing that worried me, is that occasionally the engine would suddenly rev up while I was in a lower gear. Perhaps it was a problem with the transmission. Also the cruise control would sometimes run at a higher rpm rather than shifting. Both of these probably started around 50k miles, were occasional, and never seemed to worsen. One odd thing of mention is that this car is an accident magnet! I can't explain it. Other cars are simply attracted to it. I've been rear-ended while stopped at an intersection, backed into while parked, someone clipped the front end of my car while it was parked, and most recently a woman slammed into the side after making a last second decision to get on the highway. This totaled my car, and it will be sorely missed. It took plenty of abuse, and I was never injured. If you can find this car with low miles on it, I'd be very likely to recommend it to you. It is a little plain looking on the inside. I spruced it up with a wood trim dash decal kit, and it came with a tape player, so don't expect modern ammenities such as bluetooth or gps navigation. I could go on about how great the car was and how fast I took it, but I'll just say that if you find one that hasn't been abused, if you take care of it, it will be very dependable."
