Pros: "Gas mileage, low maintenance, reliable"

Cons: "Road noise"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 9

"We purchased our 2004 Elantra used in 2007, and have put nearly 60k miles on it since. It's been a great commuter car, gas mileage with careful driving running more like 33mpg. Handles well, almost sporty, with good pickup and smooth running up to about 85 mph. We've done the recommended maintenance - fluids, filters, belts - and it still runs like the day we bought it. Only negative is the amount of road noise at highway speeds, but comparable to other cars in the same class. Definitely recommend Hyundai and would buy again."

Solid car for the price, but an accident magnet!

Pros: "Spacious, cheap, dependable, and good acceleration"

Cons: "Outdated = no bells and whistles."

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"I don't drive much, I live within a few miles of place I need to go. I have taken a couple of road trips of over 1,000 miles, and probably 4 or 5 trips that were around 300 miles. As cooky as it sounds. This car became my friend. I took care of it, got the oil changed, tires rotated, and belts replaced when it they were due (not waiting for the car to break down), and in return, I had very few problems. The front and rear suspension "coincidentally" went out while I was having routine maintenance performed. It drove really well. Very good acceleration for such a wimpy engine 138hp. It had a tighter turning radius than most of it's newer competitors including the new Elantra. The only thing that worried me, is that occasionally the engine would suddenly rev up while I was in a lower gear. Perhaps it was a problem with the transmission. Also the cruise control would sometimes run at a higher rpm rather than shifting. Both of these probably started around 50k miles, were occasional, and never seemed to worsen. One odd thing of mention is that this car is an accident magnet! I can't explain it. Other cars are simply attracted to it. I've been rear-ended while stopped at an intersection, backed into while parked, someone clipped the front end of my car while it was parked, and most recently a woman slammed into the side after making a last second decision to get on the highway. This totaled my car, and it will be sorely missed. It took plenty of abuse, and I was never injured. If you can find this car with low miles on it, I'd be very likely to recommend it to you. It is a little plain looking on the inside. I spruced it up with a wood trim dash decal kit, and it came with a tape player, so don't expect modern ammenities such as bluetooth or gps navigation. I could go on about how great the car was and how fast I took it, but I'll just say that if you find one that hasn't been abused, if you take care of it, it will be very dependable."

Pros: "Great value!"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"This car still keeps up with traffic. It still excellerates to enter traffic on highways safely. In 173000 miles, the only things that have failed are the radiator and the alternator. The front bucket seats are too narrow for our butts. This was solved with the addition of $20 gel cushions that fit nicely between the ridges of the seats. Fuel mileage has diminished only slightly."

Pros: "Easy to drive, no blind spots, reliable"

Cons: "doesn't accelerate like an 8 cylender"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 9

"This car is your basic perfect car. Not fast but will cruise at 75mph and still get 29 mpg. Roomy four door vehicle with nice size trunk. It handles very well, especially on twisty mountain roads. Change the oil regularly and it will go for ever."

Pros: "Fun to drive, great price, decent gas mileage"

Cons: "Cassette player, speakers"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 9

"I originally purchased this car as my first vehicle over 5 years ago. I love this car. In Pennsylvania winters it is fantastic, it has a nice kick to the speed when you are late and decent gas mileage. The only thing I don't like about it is how its value has fallen over the year. To me the car runs like gold, despite its age, but its value doesn't show it! Really is a great car and I hope to have it for even more years."
