For the first time in 10 years of ownership she gets compliments

"Needed something to pick up groceries cause it looked funny strapping bags to the Harley. Found this for super cheap, and when people gave me grief for it I'd look at 'em and say "can't fit groceries on the hog" It was funny to watch their faces as they shrunk back into their seat. That was the joke, and that was 10 years ago, and in that time oil changes, and tires, and a few other interior related stuff that's it. Recently came up due for the timing belt water pump service, I thought "maybe run a comp. test first see if it's worth even doing". Was I knocked for a loop, it came back 190# per cyl. my new Harley only had 180# per. So not only did I do the service, I also gave it a face lift. Because that which does not die, get's an upgrade."

Pros: "Reliable, cheap, good gas mileage"

Cons: "Small, no amenities, corrosion sensitive"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 8

"Not the most comfortable car but it takes you reliably from A to B without digging a hole in your wallet. My example is old, worn and rusty, still there is never a problem with it. A small quality vehicle, indeed. Also a good companion on icy and snowy roads."

Pros: "Consistently great gas millage stalwart."

Cons: "lug pattern being 4 on 114mm not 100mm"

"Purchased this car in'06 for $300 needing a clutch, it had 128k miles on it. Drove it a little over 2 years, and in that time I think I put some tires on it. Then I let a friend borrow it, and he ended up buying it from me, yet somehow I was the one who kept up on the maintenance. Not that there was a lot to do, I mean that 'lil thing just starts up every time. We would always joke about how the car will rot away around the engine, and trans it's just that reliable. In 2012 I bought it back, and currently still driving it a little over 9 years since buying it, and still going strong. The total amount of $ spent on parts, and repairs is negligible, aside from routine oil changes I have had to weld up the exhaust 3 times, and replaced the rear struts, and a bushing that fell of the rear sway bar, that's it. Still on the same battery, same breaks, same replaceable electrical parts, and best of all (this is for all you accent owners out there) I figured out why the dang windows are so hard to roll up, and I'm going to give you the solution 'cause I just like all of you so much%). O.K. the weather stripping on the inside of the door is pressed to firmly against the window. So what you want to do is roll down the window and grab hold of the stripping, and pull it away from window. You might have to repeat a couple three times before it takes, but it will eventually free up permanently. Sadly you'll no longer get your daily workout, but being able to quickly, and easily roll up the windows is something taken for granted before owning one of these. If you have read this, and followed my instructions I know you are thanking me, so I say you are welcome, glad I could help, sincerely N."

"I bought this car new back in '99.Over the years no major problems. It's been to Jersey and back and all over Florida. I've done ALL of the maintenance and repairs myself except for warranty work. It's super simple to work on (for me anyway). The dealer replaced 3 secondary o2 sensors(before they found a programming error in the computer and corrected it) and a faulty voltage regulator by 25,000 miles. Other than that only spark plugs, brakes, oil changes, coolant, trans lubricant,(it's a 5 speed)timing belt(s)and tires. After 120,000 miles I replaced the alternator,radiator,A/C compressor, coil, front axles and front struts(I had an alignment done). In other words normal stuff. The paint's a little faded but in Florida, that's to be expected. I'm on my 4th Hyundai since '89 and still own 3 of them."

Pros: "Economical, reliable"

Cons: "No frills"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 5

"Great city car-35 mpg, easy maneuvering, good visibility, good cargo capacity (up to 2000 lb). OK on highway (been to 15 States and Canada). I bought it for function - and it has been great. Takes me from A to B economically and hatchback design enables me to haul lots of stuff. Newer models stress fashion over function and do not suit my need - so I still use the 1998 Accent."

"The interior of this car fell apart and could not be repaired. The paint finish became spotty, and the repairs mounted as the years went by."
