I owned and sold this car
Reason: Transmission went without warning at 46644 miles! - My approximate mileage is 55,000
Pros: "Was to be the coddled 2nd car minivan for family"
Cons: "Never meant to be"
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 1
"My good riddens 2004 Odyssey EX was purchased used in 2006 with about 32,000 miles and was only driven mostly just for a couple of longer trips until 46,644 miles before the transmission fluid line decided to burst an and half into a road trip on the highway. Honda did not want to foot the full bill, only half so they state which was still $3000+. Long story short we had the tranny rebuilt and drove it another 10,000 miles before selling it for less than $5000 after purchasing it originally for $17000+. How's that for Honda long term reliability? $12,000 for less than 15,000 miles. Their trannys (esp. V6s) are really horrible, most car people I talked with that own them said they know and change the tranny fluid religiously every year! And don't think all the issues are gone with the newer models, just a matter of time. No more V6 and up Hondas ever. Btw, the other car at time was a 1997 Accord, so I was a once loyal Honda fan too, no more Hondas in my garages anymore."

"Funny reading another poster's experience with the transmission. Ours also went out at about 90,000 and we were six months over the extended warranty Honda had granted due to a known transmission problem. But our dealership was GREAT about it and gave us a rebuilt transmission at no charge. Now if only Honda would do more in the hybrid and electric market! We'd prefer to stay with them now that it's time to buy again, having been Honda people for decades."

"This model year was a lemon, unfortunately. The transmission went at around 95,000. Honda would not honor the warranty, as we were a few months over the time limit (but not the miles). So, we had it rebuilt, and it went until it was JUST over that 3 year warranty and quit again. WHITE FLAG! Considered another minivan and were going to go to Toyota. But, decided on an SUV and could not bring myself to buy another Honda, even though they are quite popular. Had they honored the warranty (let's face it, its the MILES that wear the car, not the time you've owned it), I would have been a loyal customer and bought another. I couldn't do it and walked away from a fully loaded pilot. I'm sure Honda does not miss me. BUT, if this happens to enough people, they will miss the collective lot of us!"

"Still driving on original shocks and muffler. Virtually cost free except for brake pads, gas & oil changes. It would be sinful not to replace with another Honda."
