"I now have right at 120,000 miles on my Civic EX and she still runs perfectly. I've had the car for over 5 years now. I've had no problems with it whatsoever, have only had to do regular maintenance, oil changes, etc on it. The car gets EXCELLENT gas mileage. I can go a long way on a tank of gas, it's amazing and something I'm very greatful for as gas prices rise. I would recommend this car to anyone. It's safe, comfortable and affordable."
"I bought this car with 5 miles on it. I drove it back and forth all through college and pharmacy school. I moved out of town in 2007 (about 200 miles away) and continue to drive back and forth all the time. I now have almost 120,000 miles on it and with the 4th kid on the way, my husband is finally making me sell it to get something bigger. I have never had any issues with this car. It has been wonderful, reliable, comfortable, and an all around great car."
"I've had this car for 9 years, and took it from 20,000 to 270,000 miles and from LA to Seattle. Never ever let me down. Power train (engine, transmission, frame) and interiors (AC, doors, lights, electric windows, electric locks, moonroof), been close to perfect through these 9 years. I had an accident at 100,000 miles and changed the radiator and per factory recommendation on miles also the timing belt and water pump.
A resistor that controls the speed changes on the automatic transmission models might go off (not before the check engine light lit up) or a cylinder misfire would prompt the check engine light (this has happened twice on all this time). Either way, they are simple repairs, check-ups. Other than, nothing else. This thing will go for another quarter of a million miles if needed. Love it!"
"Had this Honda since new. It was always parked in the shade. Paint job after a waxing will reflect like a mirror. Due to its small size it is a chick car. A dude will not like it. My knees are way too high when driving it and that is uncomfortable. Very reliable, never left my stranded. You could weld the hood shut it is so well built."
"Overall - if you put a score on all the different (value, functional) characteristics of cars and added them up, I think this car would come out with the highest score of all time. Considering - adding up a value of: price (less than $15k), reliability, durability / longevity, trade-in value, maintenance costs, handling, basic comfort, noise level, acceleration, versatility, capacity (particularly for its class), mileage [overall - hwy, city, summer, winter ave: 42 mpg, Highway ave: 45, highest (4 times): 56 mpg, lowest ever (in winter city) 32 mpg];
NOT considering: aesthetics - appearance, creature comforts - gadgets, etc.
--- BEST ALL AROUND CAR EVER MADE."
"I bought this car new in 2003, keep it serviced, one 19$ part needed over and above ge eral service. I trust it, i am comfortable in it and hope to get another 200,000 miles out of it. Average gas mileage mid 40 s in the cold, upper 40s, low 50s in the summer."
Pros: "Peppy vtec, great visability, unbeatable value!"
Cons: "Honda doesn't make this exact car today!"

"This car has it all! off the lot value that only increases as time goes by; the ease of a smooth 5 speed manual transmission; the pep of a perfectly tuned VTEC engine; superior visability from well placed pillars, roomy interior, ample cargo space and fold down seats which add to the car's versatility. I couldn't be happier with my choice 9 years ago or find a car i'd rather replace my Honda Civic EX with today."
"I bought my 2002 EX coupe brand new. I must say that the car is somewhat fun to drive. It handles great! Better than most cars in its class. Not a big fan of the engine but love the smooth automatic gearbox. Don't get me wrong, the engine is awesome when it comes to reliability issue but just lack of power & torque. Excellent gas mileage! Perfect daily car! I get about 30mpg on the average with a combination of highway & local driving. Built quality is a bit disappointed especially from a Honda. The little stuff like knobs, lights,.... are not very durable. The front seats are always need to be tighten. Comfort level is also quite disappointed. It does not carry the same comfort level as the previous generation of Civic. The ride quality is very harsh. Not smooth at all. Overall, it's still a great car. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a trouble free fuel efficient fun to drive daily car."
Cons: "Not much power (slow acceleration and poor climbin"

"I bought this car, new, in California and killed it 13 years and almost 200,000 miles later in Oregon. It has been back and forth from Monterey County to Los Angeles County, and for the last 10 years from Portland to Los Angeles (and many many places in between). Its one weakness has been acceleration and climbing issues, and there are a lot of mountain passes on all those roads ... but I learned to be content with climbing Siskiyou Summit in third gear and in the slow lane because the car was otherwise so freaking good and reliable that people would think me mental to get rid of it. Besides, I'm growing old and slower, as well ... speed is no longer a major factor. I am somewhat proud of the fact that my wife and I learned to drive the hybrid as a hybrid, and not as a car with a hybrid motor ... we prided ourselves in gaining maximum mileage, as reported on screen or as computed by mathematics. On the day I backed into that big Chevy van, we were still getting 45 mpg.
We serviced the car on the schedule that the car dictated, and had only two serious mechanical problems in its entire lifetime -- at about 125,000 miles we had to replace the hybrid battery, and about 10,000 miles ago we had problems with the clutch. Did I mention that it was a five-speed, manual transmission? Anyway, we liked it so much that though we love many of the features in the new Accord Hybrids, we're going to save $12,000 and buy a 2015 CPO Civic Hybrid and hope it is just as reliable and steady as the last one. I have never owned a car for this long a time, and will really miss it."
"Bought this car new, and drove for 12 years and over 202,000 miles. Super reliable. I put winter tires on it, and drive through western snow storms better than many trucks & SUVs. It's comfortable enough for long road trips, and sporty enough for windy mountain roads. Cheap to maintain and repair."
"Have owned this car for 14 years. Has been regularly maintained by one of the top Honda service shops in Omaha during that time. Anything it needed got repaired. My daughter used it in high school and college for the last 6 years. Very dependable car; have only had regular maintenance and repairs as needed because of age (187K miles)."
"I bought this car new and it is in excellent condition. I have had it serviced every 3,000 miles. I am a lady and have driven most of the miles in my hometown area, out of state only 2 or 3 times. Gas mileage is 30-31 MPG."
Cons: "Front end components and airbag system short lived"
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 4
"My car is a manual, but I've read many bad things about Honda automatic transmissions for 2000's Civics. My car's engine and transmission haven't needed repairs and for this I'm grateful.
However, my airbag system has failed for the second. By 42K miles my lower control arm bushings were shot and it cost me $2K+ to rebuild my front end in November 2011. I was hoping that this would last until my car was traded in or would go to the junkyard, but at 82K miles my lower control arm bushings are going shot again. I was told by three different repair shops that this is a common problem with 2000's Hondas.
I don't want another car whose airbag system fails every four to five years. And I don't want to replace lower control arms every 35K miles, either."
"This car has provided trustworthy and efficient transportation for over a decade, with no issues. I love the zippy ride, the awesome gas mileage, and the easy parking. The fold down rear seats make it easy to throw a bike in the back (or building materials). Really, it's amazing what you can fit. The HX is zippy and delivers at least 5mpg better than the other models, as far as I can tell just by virtue of having a superior engine design and lighter wheels."
Pros: "cute, reliable, great gas mileage, comfortable"
Cons: "loud road noise, dash creaks"
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10
"This car has been fabulous! Very reliable, very few things i have had to do to even maintain it in the 5 or so years i have owned it! I have a 1 yr old son now and we bought an older jeep cherokee thinking it would be better for me toting the kid around, drove that for a few weeks and then told my hubby give me my civic back!! My car was suprisingly easier to get my infant car seat in/out of(downward and back motion instead of having to lift UP, more roomy in the back to sit and breastfeed my son when out and about, and the carseat installs much more securly than in the jeep! This may be a 2 door car but it has the tether anchors for carseats down in the seat crease AND up above! My friends mini van didnt even have all three car seat tether anchors! I love the plush velvety feel of the seats and the back seat in particular the headrest is sooo soft and comfy! Even tho my interior is tan every spill has washed right off my seats with just dishsoap and water! My ONLY complaints with this car ever has really been that the dash creaks and that the road noise is somewhat loud inside especially if your sitting in the back. Love my civic, even tho it only has two doors and i now have a toddler i still wont give it up! :) The gas mileage is amazing too :) Only other thing i've liked as much was my Del Sol (which is a honda civic also!) haha :)"
Pros: "Great price, great gas mileage and no blind spots!"
Cons: "not a ton of power behind the pedal, road noise"

"I'm in the military and I bought this car because I knew that I'd be making a ton of road trips on the weekends and I wanted something with great gas mileage.
When I got stationed in DC, I was wary about the traffic volume, and my fears were warranted. My car has had a couple of door dings and I've been in a fender bender, which literally just flexed the pedestrian friendly plastic, not causing any damage to the frame (yay for paint!).
Also, I'm 6'1" and I have absolutely no issues with getting in and out of this 'little' car.
If I weren't getting stationed in the boonies, I'd keep this car forever. It's zippy, and perfect for maneuvering through the city streets.
"I've had my car for over 7 yrs now and other than regular maintance I have never had any problems with it. I really do believe its a great car and plan on keeping it till it give no more (dont see that happening anytime soon)."
"I bought this car with 80xxx on it, and have put 60xxx more on her. The only thing I have replaced is the tires and brakepads. This car is super reliable with regular maintenance, and has gotten me through 3 colorado winters. Comfort level is 3 stars, as a civic is not much of a luxury vehicle, but what it lacks in leather and buttons, it makes up in peace of mind!! I have owned one other honda car, an acura integra, which lasted me well into the 200xxx mark. Seems the brakes and suspension are the least amount of quality on the honda vehicles. Timing belt is also a common replacement part. Overall, I am completely convinced Honda is one of the most reliable car companies out there. I will continue to purchase Honda until I feel comfortable enough making that kind of investment in a used domestic car. This is my only problem with domestic vehicles, the used car bought with 75xxx seems to break much sooner with more problems than hondas. I have owned 5 domestic cars with costly problems at around the 100xxx mark."
"I purchased this car below blue book and was certain there was going to be some problems. Upon getting it looked at, it was still in near perfect condition. It was kind of a rocky ride, but after putting on new tires it's smooth as can be. I love this car. I mention that it's safe because it just saved me. I was in an accident (today) on a freeway where I was stopped and I was rear ended by a car going approximately 65 mph. Her Ford Explorer had to be towed, and my Honda was safe to drive off the scene, although the frame might be bent. AWESOME car. Kept me safe and was fun to drive.
Cons, seats are a little firm and there's not much get up and go in 1st, 2nd, or 5th gear.
Pros, safe, dependable, good resell value, and fun."
