Pros: "It's an afforable vehicle"

Cons: "Purcchase it brand new."

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"I have owned my 4 door ex civic since 1998 and I have not had any major problems with it. Just the standard wear and tear. I have exactly 227,000 miles on my car and I due for a oil change at 230,000. I love my 4 door ex civic and I would not change it for anything in the world. The only thing that I wish I could get to work again is my sun roof. My sun roof will pop up, but it wont retrack back into the roof to open up. I miss using it. I tried to have it fixed, but the repairs was too expensive because they would have to take down my headliner just to replace a broken clip that stops my sun roof from sliding back. Other than that I have no problem with my car. Since owning my vehicle I have always used my AC. My AC still works fine up to this day. I love everything about my 4 door ex civic. I love jumping into it and smelling that old car smell. lol If I was able to afford another car right now, I would still hold on to my civic to drive on the weekends. When I bought my car brand new I paid 16,000 for it and I still have the big black and white price sticker that they place on the car. The interior of my vehicle is like new because I had custom made car seats for the front and back seat made since I bought my car."

After the bath!

"This has been my most reliable vehicle ever! I have put the last 100k miles on it. The only money I have put into it is tires, oil changes and one hub repair! I put studded snow tires on it in the winter and it hugs the road. even on ice! My only negative comment is I am tall and this car is low to the ground. I am comfortable the first 50 miles but then I miss the comfort of my Cadillac!"

"THE SAYING GOES, PUT INTO YOUR CAR THE BEST POSSIBLE CARE, AND YOU'LL REAP THE REWARDS LATER. Our Rewards received since getting our car in 1999 with 11 miles on the odometer(It was a Demo car)are: * We only have 113,200+ miles driven in this car, and it still drives like a new car; I think this is due to our religious oil changes every three thousand miles driven, it was at the Honda shop for an oil change and related works, along with the timely check-ups for anything else that was due to change, i.e., Hose changes, all belt changes, brakes, etc...We've had no major problems with anything on the car. * And we kept it clean inside."

"The consensus on the Honda Civic is generally that they are stalwartly durable and economical to maintain. Supposedly, if you take of the car--it takes care of you. Although I bought my EX new in 1999, and owned it for almost 16 years, I didn't find it to be extraordinarily reliable. Even though I maintained it meticulously with every recommended service, it only lasted 112k miles before the major, expensive repairs started rolling in (paint job from oxidation, radiator leaked, leaky head gasket, suspension needed work). Cabin comforts were OK for the price--although the AC was weak from day one, and the ride quality was good, but not outstanding. To be frank, from word of mouth, I expected the car to last twice as long as it did. My buddy still has an older (1998) Toyota Camry with 250k miles, that's been more reliable, and is in much better shape, than my '99 Civic. The $2k price tag required for the repair of the head gasket/valve job was the final straw--and had to sell it for almost next to nothing. Overall, the car served me adequately, but I wasn't dazzled. I wouldn't recommend a Civic, nor buy another."
