1997 GMC Sonoma Club Coupe Cab

Bought new 17 years ago.

I own this car - My approximate mileage is 128,000

Pros: "17 years still running strong"

Cons: "rust underneath, doesn't like windy days"

"My 1996 4X4 4.3L 5 speed, has been one of the most reliable vehicles I have ever owned. It still has everything original except for normal wear and tear parts and still running strong, getting 23 mpg. Plenty of power with the 4.3 and the transmission is great. Only problems were drivers window motor, rear main seal and heater motor, after 17 years. On the down side, seeing a lot of rust underneath the truck, maybe i could have washed it a little more. Also for a small truck it doesn't like windy days on the highway, gets pushed all over the place. Need to get a bigger truck but keeping the Sonoma, the way its going it will probably be for a while."

Reliable, Underrated, Great Truck

Disappointed on the sale day

"With all the options and add on the truck was a great performer. Other people did not have the options and were disappointed. Used Mobil 1 Synthetic the entire time and had great gas mileage and wonderful performance."

VERY GOOD FOR COMFORT AND/OR OFF-ROAD

Pros: "Fun to drive, reliable, easy to maintain"

Cons: "gas milage if lifted with huge tires"

Great little truck after the bugs are fixed

Pros: "Some Quality Issues, once fixed , great truck"

Cons: "After 30k miles issues may arise until fixed"

"I've owned the Sonoma 3rd door truck with 2.2L engine for 12 years. When I first purchased the truck I'm so glad I purchased the extended warranty with 100 dollar deductible. I can't remember how many times for the first three years of owning the truck I had numerous issues with emissions system. Oxygen and Speed sensor and harness replaced at least once. The water pump went out and warp the cylinder head so it needed to be machined and reinstalled twice. Make sure if you have to have the head machined or replace that the dealer knows what they are doing. It took me three different visits with three different dealerships to get the engine fixed correctly. After the first three years of ownership, I had no problems. Today now I'm starting to see the service engine light for emissions sensor failing. However, the engine is at 157000 miles I might add. Great little truck after I got all of the bugs out of the system. Good on fuel mileage too 26-27 mpg. Great for visiting the hardware store for moving home improvement goods. Note this truck isn't a club cab it's the extended cab version with the 3rd door and regular 6' bed."

Good little truck

Pros: "Good value, good truck"

Cons: "No factory speakers behind seats (extended cab)"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"Have owned for 8 years, bought w/32,000. Have kept maintained & still looks & runs good. Had to replace (4 cyl) engine at 106,000 but think that was a fluke. Would trust to head across country anytime."

Great truck

Pros: "Reliable, dependable"

Cons: "Third door handle is cheap plastic and breaks easy"

"My second Sonoma 4x4 and I've loved them both. First one had 170,000 miles when I sold it. This one has 271,000 miles and still runs great. No major problems, just normal maintenance. Rear main seal is just starting to leak a bit now but 271,000 miles and no complaints. I drive a lot of miles and this truck is comfortable to drive and to ride in. It handles well and takes on the Michigan snow with no problems."
