"i bought my 95 sierra XC 4x4 with150,000 miles on it from a friend who used and ABUSED this truck since he bought it new. he owns a logging company and USES his trucks. this truck has had 285/75/16 mud tires on it since it was bought, the oil was changed at 3k and 10k miles, then every 15000 miles or whenever someone looked at the sticker on the window and realized it was way over 15000 since the last change.
i now have over 200,000 miles on this thing and it has never let me down. i bought it from him when the water pump went out one evening. it has some minor rust and a lot of dents and dings, it has been buried in red clay mud to the door handles getting in and out of some job sites(hook a dozer to it and pull it out,hit the next creek to wash out the radiator and keep on going).i do change the oil a bit more frequently(about every 8-9000 when it is about a quart low.
structurally this truck is still as solid as the day it was built, although the front fenders are starting to rust thru,as well as over the rear tires as well. when this one finally dies i will definatelly be looking for another pre vortec extended cab 4x4.
my uncle also has a 97 chevy 1500 extended cab which he purchased new and has over 190,000 miles on it.his is pristene, never abused, but still has earned its keep towing and hauling firewood and assorted animals from his hunts. it is nothing to run across him with it out in the mountains in mud to the top of the tires getting to his hunting cabin.but when he gets home it is washed and waxed as well as any show car. we both live in the mountains of west virginia so our vehicles are very familiar with road salt and gravel roads.
he is planning to sell his soon and buy a new chevy/gmc k1500 4x4 4door.
i will be buying his as soon as he picks out a new one!!!"

"This is the 1997 GMC Sierra Extra cab Z-71 4x4 with the 5.7L Engine. Currently this truck has 170K on her. I have replaced the Transmission and the front suspension components, IE: Ball Joints, Tie Rods, Shocks! I also replaced the Fuel Pump. I have tried for years to beat the doors off this truck off roading and hunting, with no success! She has taken everything and always powered home. Stay away from Rancho Shocks unless you want a horrible ride on city streets, their great shocks off road! cosmetically, the paint does not hold up, but its a truck! The door handles interior and exterior will give up eventually but its an easy fix. I cant say enough about this truck! I dont want to get a new one, but she's about ready for retirement! Drive it till the wheels fall off!"
