"I have owned this car for 2 years. It is now 16 years old. My grandmother owned it for 10 prior to me. She kept it running well by performing regular maintenance. The engine is very reliable. It has never had any problems. Same goes for the transmission. It is still going strong. The car still has the original alternator, as well. However, it is rusting badly. The plastic running boards along the doors of the car are gone; there is no longer any metal for them to screw into. I have had to replace the gas tank because it was rusting through and leaking fuel. I have replaced the catalytic converter because it was rusting. The screws that hold the sway bar clips have snapped; those clips had to be welded to the body of the car. I have replaced the front struts once; the rear struts twice. Besides the engine, everything else is falling apart. What's the good news? Well, I suppose I get slightly better gas mileage now that the car weighs less due to the constant erosion of rust. Stay away from this car."

Pros: "Reliable, always starts and goes whenever I want"

"Being here in the northeast, the car has a bit of rust after 11 years in the salt. However, it still looks good and it runs very well. Great heater and air conditioning, looks sporty, very comfortable on long trips. Any repairs it's needed in the 10 years I've owned it have always been inexpensive and easy to fix. I highly recommend the Ford Taurus to anyone who wants economical, reliable transportation."

Pros: "This car has had no major problems in 15 years."

Cons: "Pass through from trunk needs to be wider."

"I bought this former rental, with 10,000 miles on it, in 2001. It's 2016, for most of the time I lived south, so little salt damage, and I had a garage. I'll be donating it, because, it is getting older, and I'm moving 1800 miles away. The only recurring problem is an unreliable fuel warning light, and the gas gauge, which, despite repairs/replacements, may still register 1/8 tank when empty. I rated comfort 9/10 because I'm tall. The ability to open the trunk through to the back seat is a great feature. The fact that the opening is about 34" wide is a design flaw. A 36" opening would have allowed easier loading of so many things.) I would recommend a Taurus based on my experience with this model year."

Pros: "Good mileage (20+) Comfy, nice traveling, looks"

Cons: "Repairs can be a challenge for non mechanics."

"This was the original Taurus that we bought. In all, We have a 2001, 2003, and a 2006. We also picked up a running 2001 that we have for parts should they need one. The engine and tranny on the parts car are both good and are not hard to change out if need be. The 03 needed a new engine before we had it three years, so I bought one from a good Salvage company and we have put over a 100,000 miles on it. My 06 looks new and I like driving it a lot. The 02 is driven by my daughter and she loves it. When they have problems, they are a problem, but when they run good, they run really good."

Pros: "Simple, basic, used probation car"

Cons: "Not good on gas"

"Everything that was wrong mechanically with the car has been fixed out of pocket. This is my first and only car. I just don't want a car that can't keep gas in it for the places I have to go that are far."
