Review this carBy Sophia (AZ) on Tuesday, June 04, 2013
I own this car - My approximate mileage is 120,000
overall rating 4 of 10rating detailsPros: "comfortable, drove great (when it worked)"
Cons: "engine failure way too soon, so-so gas mileage."
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 3
"In the last year I had to replace the starter, the alternator, and brake cylinders. A week ago I started it and it started to shake with the check engine light flashing. I took it to the mechanic and found out the number 5 cylinder wasn't working, they replaced the ignition coil and it still did not resolve the problem. Turns out there is an issue with the engine itself and it would cost thousands of dollars to take it apart to find the problem."

"I bought this car because I needed a vehicle to be able to travel from where I work back home to my family (about 100 miles one way). I had limited time to look for cars and very limited funds (college student = no money). I picked this car up from a pawn shop for $1400 and thought I was getting a great deal. It ran awesome! Until less than 5 days later I got stranded about 10 miles from home on a major interstate. Turns out the 1st and 3rd cylinders blew. So we bought and replaced the engine... twice... in less than 4 months. The place we got the engine from no refuses to back their own warranty on the engine so I'm stuck with a piece of junk car that doesn't run. On top of the 1st and 3rd cylinders problems when we first replaced the engine it lead to a myriad of other little problems that had to be fixed. The were cheap enough repairs, things like broken lines, valves, spark plugs, etc. But all total we probably put about another $1000 into the car. Got it running again all nice and pretty and what happens but a week later I'm getting ready to head home and just get on the interstate when I lose power and am left stranded again. Not only did the 1st and 3rd blow a second time but the connection to the battery severed. So now it's sitting as a pile of junk in the front yard back at home and I'm stranded without transportation outside of the transport that takes me to and from work. Not to mention that I'm out probably close to $3500 (adding in insurance costs which I was charged for several months because I couldn't get them to cancel my policy because they wouldn't believe that the car was broken down). I have no money to get another car and no one will offer more than $500 for this piece of junk. So I just wanted to warn people DO NOT BUY THIS CAR!!!"

"Well I was involved in an accident so I needed a car. My aunt and uncle said they'd help. They bought a car and I was given a 2001 Ford Taurus SES 3.0 V6 FFV with 118,325 miles on it. Never thought I'd actually own this car. Love it and then problems started rising. I don't even know where to start but I fixed them one by one, and right now it is sitting in my grandmas yard with the oil light flickering, the head gaskets were just changed, alternator changed, oil, antifreeze/coolant added, and the heads were re-serviced. Thinking about selling it because by the time I fix it I could of had the car I wanted in the first place."

I own this car - My approximate mileage is 154,000
overall rating 9 of 10rating detailsPros: "Reliable, comfortable, ride."
Cons: "Bland, mpg at times."

"Originally bought my SL model Taurus around 95,000 miles and have already put about 60,000 miles on it. Mpg is decent on the highway or freeway coming in around 26 for me, but it really suffers in a rural area at low speeds or lots of starts and stops; typically 18-22 depending on the area. The V6 provides a good amount of power. Regular maintenance and repairs are average in terms of cost. The only repair outside of regular maintenance on my vehicle was my exhaust gasket popped off by the manifold... Nothing major, but potentially catastrophic if moving. No rust in sight, but still a bit of a strange thing to happen. The brake fluid warning light comes on frequently for what appears to be no reason at all. Otherwise, a great daily driver for around town or for long trips."
