"A wonderful "Zippy" vehicle. Will give you more than you ask for. Have to use cruise, if I don't want a ticket. My first Ford, and I love her. She is older, but will stand with the new ones any day."

I owned and sold this car
Reason: Fell apart - My approximate mileage is 130,000
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 1
"I bought a '97 Taurus two years ago after totalling my previous car. I was limtied to replace it with only the money from my insurance check at the time, so I had to settle for a very cheap used car. I knew it was not going to be anything special but I was not prepared for how bad it ended up being. The CarFax showed no bad history so I did not worry too much. A month later the powersteering gave out----when I was making a left at a very busy intersection! Luckily my passenger grabbed the wheel and helped me crank it. There was a leak somewhere and it was draining powersteering fluid at an alamring rate. It was going to be an insane amount of money to replace the whole unit, more than the value of the car, so I decided to just keep adding more power steering fluid in it each week. Shortly after that the car started to getting hot very quickly---never overheating but enough that you could smell it. And then after that the transmission began to die. When I was ready to purchase a new car a few months ago, I took the car into to be appraised for trade. The manager told me that my car was so unsafe that he did not want to drive it. He told me my best bet was to sell it to Pick'n'Pull, which I did and got a decent amount of money for it. In the end, I lost about $3000 on this car. So not worth it. That being said, the interior held up well all these years. And it is a very spacious car that (as long as your powersteering works) handles well for its size. And it was quiet (besides my dying transmission) and comfortable ride. However, I felt unsafe and worried everytime I turned that car on."

I owned and sold this car
Reason: upgrade to newer bigger vehicle - My approximate mileage is 169,000
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 9
"My parents swore by the Taurus and I was skeptical. I bought mine well used. The owner bought it, put a newer (Taurus parts from junk yard) engine and transmission with very few miles on them. Decided he didn't like the car itself and I got a lucky deal. I babied it, made sure it was warm before driving in the winter, used 100% synthetic oil. Other than normal maintenance (breaks, tires, plugs and wires, etc), I only had one problem which I think was the throttle position sensor. That's right, never solved the problem. Car would hesitate when run long times, didn't stop me or it from 400 mile road trips! Seven years driving it, best car I ever owned and would buy if I wasn't looking for something bigger."

"My Wagon has held up for many trips, hauled people, luggage, landscape items, furniture etc. It takes me and passengers where ever we want to go, with whatever we want to take with us, worry free and comfortably. Great car overall. Have replaced radiator and water pump. Routine stuff otherwise. Big windshield, see everything."

I own this car - My approximate mileage is 170,000
overall rating 7 of 10rating detailsCons: "something always needs to be fixed"
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 3
"Bought this car at an auction for a good price but one trip I had to get the engine repaired. I also had some transmission issues and had to get some minor repairs done almost every month. I spend $40 a week on gas but other than that I'm able to get to and from work."
