"i have owned my 93 taurus gl 3.0l for about 7 years now.bought it for about 700 dollars.had 134000 miles on it(was told it needed a trans.)was a church donated car which just had the a/c repaired and was visually in very good condition in and out.found out trans was ok (was a speed sensor that was reading incorrectly after it got warm)has been ok since than.now has 297000 miles on it(i drive it alot-back and forth to work)has never let me down even when the belt broke on the way home once and lost all accessories(alternator, water pump, power steering)car overheated ,battery went dead.put a new belt and tensioner on it started it up and ran perfect.over the years and mileage i have ofcourse done the usual maintenance(tune-up,brakes,tires,bulbs,belts,fluids)when i got it iput a new water pump, fuel pump, starter, struts, some engine gaskets on it.have not had to replace any of them yet .everything still works in the car(windows, door locks,a/c,cruise ,power seat.i get usually min.30mpg highway(i drive conservatively,no speeding, weaving in and out of traffic)basically i baby it and thats probably why it has lasted me so long with minimal repairs.the car is definitely getting older now and showing it signs of old age( burning some oil, trans slips a little if i get on it)but it still keeps going.im gonna keep it till it blows.i got more than my moneys worth.all cars are going to have their share of flaws, but i believe they can be kept to a minimum with a little care for your care;change your fluids when they should be,dont abuse your car,if your car is overheating dont keep driving it and expect it to still run after you fix it.i am a dealer technician by trade and i have worked on alot of cars, and its amazing what i've seen over the years, the stories i've heard.i've seen such neglect that the person shouldn't be allowed to own a car, much less drive it on the road, but they'll be the first to say what a piece of junk there car is.next time you get a chance, take a look at some of the tires on some peoples cars in a mall parking lot or what have you, look at the condition of some of them.you'll be shocked at what you see;bald tires, belts and metal chords sticking out, sidewalls with gashes in them.and then think to yourself how many of those people are driving next to you on the highway doing 80mph in and out of traffic when its raining out.just because you can see some treads on your tires, doesn't necessarily mean their still good.for the most part cars are made much better than they were say 30 years ago, and if taken care of even minimully, will probably last you at least 10 years.just something to think about!"

"After 3 SHO and two Taurus, I can say that I am still as in love with these cars as I was from day one! I've worked on vary many Taurus and SHO, and they're near bulletproof if you do the maint. like you should. The SHO requires a lot of attention, and is worth the extra cost if you can work on it yourself. If you're not a good mechanic tho, I'd just get a regular Taurus, or you'll pay thru the nose every 60K."

"I have own the car for 6 years and only had minor problems with the car. Great Family sport sedan. 220 HP 2" lower than a regular Taurus, great handling from a car that big. Car has 170,000+ miles."
