"Purchased my 98 Ranger as the 2nd owner 2001, it has been a very reliable truck. Maintained as manufacturer recommended and few repairs required. Recently replaced tires, alternator and new battery.
There are some minor body issues and the windshield is cracked.
I would recommend a Ranger anytime, good light pickup and I would definitely buy another if it was available."
"Truck has new ford clutch, new rad.AC works great. like new tires. does have a misfire on Cly. #2 have had it checked out looks like the Inj. needs to be done. compression is good on that cyl. All other mechanical parts are great. paint is not that well has one dent in the left rear near bumper. 90% of miles are freeway driving very little city driving."
Pros: "I'm 5'2" and love the way it handles in the snow"
Cons: "4 cup holders, 2 cig lighters to charge ele."

"I love this truck. My husband bought it used in 2002 for himself and in 2012 we bought him a new car and I took the truck cause I wanted to keep the 4x4. We have no more kids at home and I love the truck. The engine is strong and it never has to go in the shop. We do regularly maintain the oil changes and brakes and tires and so on. Very dependable truck and fun to drive 50 year old woman so it should be a nice truck for any age."
"Very dependable. I've owned it for 15 years and have put 122000 miles on it. Other than two mass flow sensors, it's needed nothing but expected replacement parts (like tires and shocks) and routine maintenance. It still has the original clutch and muffler, the car has no squeaks or rattles, the paint has held up well, the brake pads lasted over 100,000 miles, and I have never added a drop of oil between changes. With street tires, the handling is surprisingly good. Gas mileage is in the low to mid 20's although it lost about 4 mpg to ethanol fuel. Performance is adequate for my conservative driving style, even in the mountains. The truck looks good with the Splash body.
Of course, the ride over bad roads is not great and it is not good in the snow or ice, as you would expect from a 2WD SWB pickup.
Still, this has been as dependable a vehicle as I have owned in over 40 years of driving. This was a great investment and I am happy I bought it!"
Pros: "reliable, comfortable, great offroading abilities"
Cons: "bad fuel economy, lacks power"

"The only 2 complaints I have about my 2000 ford ranger 4wd truck is that it is gutless and it doesn't get the fuel milage I would expect it to. Although it does have a 3 inch body lift and 32" tires. It will really struggle on steep hills. It has the 3.0L flex fuel engine in it. I must say though that it starts right up and will always get me where I need to go...it just doesn't set speed records getting there and it likes gas stations :)"
"Overall I like the truck and drive it everyday mostly as transportation. I don't haul heavy loads or tow anything. My biggest complaint is it is horrible in rain and snow, sometimes scarey in 2WD. The back end is so light that it doesn't take much to spin when cornering."
