"After 50k miles this vehicle drives like a truck. Even with regular scheduled maintenance it required extra replacing and fixing of some sort. When the transmission went out, it was a great chore to find a mechanic trained to replace it. I have nothing good to say because now the engine is kaput. We decided to stick to Honda's and Toyota's for future reliability."

"My Freestyle has 220000 miles and is my everyday driver,It is roomy and very comfortable, I love it I put on 22" rims and tires and it seems to have a better ride, The only problem im having is I have to let it warm up before I drive it, if not the check transmission light comes on. but after it warms up (about 10 minutes) it is fine."

"Needed to replace the transmission at 70,000. Why? No one would do it. New one cost $6000. Ford owes me."

"I loved this car until one day it wouldn't start leaving me stranded. Found out there are issues with the transmission and a new one is $6000 and no one will rebuild them. So, I had to have it hauled to a salvage yard, receiving nothing for a 2006 car that should have had a few thousand dollars worth. Am very unhappy with Ford and hope to be part of a class action suit. If you have a 2006 Ford, I would get rid of it."

Pros: "Good size, ride and gas mileage"

Cons: "Don't like Ford corp, too many problems"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 2

"Wifes car, 3.0 V6 w/CVT transmission. Good gas mileage, good driving characteristics, extra room when needed and not a big MPG penalty when its just one or two people. Now for the bad, brake calipers w/mounting brackets, rotors, pads had to replace them to cure that awful crinking noise. I do my own work so it was not that expensive but still the problem went back to Ford twice over 30k miles until the warranty expired, they never fixed it. The middle row seats stick, WD40 spray lube helped but still happens occasionally. Third row seat is uncomfortable and too high, ok for small kids only. Engine torque mount had to be replaced to stop the engine from rotating on hard acceleration or deceleration, $250 part, I did the work. The front engine seal, Ford wanted $2000 to replace valve cover gaskets, timing chain cover gasket, oil pan gasket and front oil seal, my wife called me at work to explaining how she brought it in for an oil change but they found a large oil leak, she said the service manager was going to all the people waiting for other work and telling they found some other urgent problem, I talked to the service manager told him to stop what they were doing and give back the car, do not pass go. Took it to a independent shop, under $100 to replace the front seal and cure the oil leak. The roof pillar and left mirror blocks the view of the road and oncoming traffic from your left, you must always lean forward or back before leaving the stop sign to make sure someone is not coming. If you buy a Ford, find a reliable shop that charges reasonable labor rates. Our Freestyle has been more reliable than the two other Fords we owned but probably won't buy another."

"Transmission went out at 100,000 miles. Spent $5k to replace transmission and went out again after 3 years and 40K miles."
