"I love my Focus ZTS ! It's been 12 years with this one (had another Focus SE for 3 years prior, too!). Because I have always maintained it, it has been a pleasure to drive.
After many years and only 90K on it, I only got stuck and towed once - for a faulty ignition lock which prevented me turning on the engine (a mighty important detail that Ford refused to recall even with thousands of complaints. Cost me $400 to fix....)
That said, it is still the most dependable ride I have ever owned. Living in the Northeast, it has been through many a rock salt winter, but the minimal rust that started has been quelled by using a rustoleum paint - before it rusted through.
I have always paid careful attention to detailing and upkeep of the exterior and interior. I would highly recommend anyone buying a car to get one with leather seats. There is NO comparison to cloth - it holds up, no stains or odor build up and will look like new for years (with a little maintenance ).
Because it is still in such wonderful condition and still getting 25 - 33 mpg, I plan to keep it and maintain it as long as the benefits outweigh the cost of repairs. After 12 years, it still pays to have collision on it!!!!!
The only way I would ever buy a used car is if I could find one like mine that has been loved and cared for. Have all my receipts of repair, and when the time comes, I will be very sad to let this car go! Best car I've ever had (and I've had many - I'm 60 !) :)"
Cons: "FORD STOPPED MAKING 2 door vehicles, esp this one!"

"I purchased new, & today 4/15/2015, it has 96,000 mls on it & still, RUNS SOUND. Got me through years & a lot of snowy storm miles, No rattles, no oil leaks, no engine problems. KEY: REGULAR MAINTENANCE & OIL CHANGES & DON'T BEAT YOUR CARS. I would have bought another one, for a 2nd family car, but they stopped making 2 door hatch like this, so I opted to rebuy the ranger truck, and they stopped making that as well! SORRY FORD, but I had to move onto someone else for a 2nd family vehicle! My advice, get back to making the 2 best vehicles you ever produced & I'll come back."
Pros: "great price, fun to drive, compact, easy to fix"
Cons: "poor interior design, no power, no torque"

"This car gets excellent gas mileage and never quits. However it is extremely basic, and a little confined - it feels that the design of the console was an afterthought and drinks often topple out of the cup holders under the pedals while I drive.
It is an excellent and dependable little car if you are a first time buyer or on a tight budget like I was. I bought it used in 2013 so it was already over a 100,000 miles.
I will say it is a lot more fun to drive than most four cylinders, but just don't expect to get anywhere fast if your driving up a large hill."
Cons: "cheap interior plastics, unconfortable front seats"

"Purchased this car at a dealer in Canada two years ago for 5500 with 100,000kms on the odometer. Since then I've had to replace the battery, front brake pads and rotors, and the tires.
I really hated this car due to the road noise and rattles. I actually resorted to wearing ear plugs!
Recently I sprayed rubberized undercarriage spray under the car and under the hood. So far it's helped tremendously in regards to the road noise! This thing is soooo much quieter than before.
These cars have a silly design where they placed the alternator at the BACK of the engine, directly above the exhaust manifold. As a result it places a huge strain on the electrics and will result in premature alternator and battery failure."
"I bought the Focus with just over 100,000 miles and put another 80K on it over 7 years. It's reliable and fun to drive, with fuel economy in the mid 20's. On the downside, I had to replace three window regulators, and the gel motor mount went out about every other year. On cold days, it vibrated horribly. I replaced the valve cover gasket because of oil leaks at about 125,000, and it already needs a new one. We've had numerous nuisance repairs, but the engine and tranny are solid. The front suspension just rusted through. That may be the end of her. I'd buy another one, though."
"I bought this car brand new in Oct 2004 (its an '05) with 17 miles on it. I now have 93K miles on it and i have never had anything wrong with it(knock on wood) besides basic maint. (tires, brakes, battery, and regular fluid changes)Air still runs cold ! although the only complaint that I have is that it rattles. the interior is plastic and I'm sure that's what is rattling but its rattled from the very begining and you just learn to deal with it.Its been very reliable i hate the thought of getting rid of her for fear ill buy something not as reliable"
Cons: "window mechanism broke during a cold snap."

"Bought the car used for 10400 in Jan, 2004 and I'm still driving it. It has had some electrical problems over the years. Probably spent 5k fixing and maintaining this and that over the eleven years. Fan quit working, two automatic windows quit working, something electrical that made the battery light come on needed repairing. Actually, everything that's been fixed was electrical. --Oops--actually replaced motor mounts. Replaced tires twice. Replaced brakes twice. Replaced battery once. But--overall--I've been happy. Great mileage, easy to drive and park. I usually keep a car about 5 years."
