Cons: "Parts are expensive, maintenance more costly"

"While I'd stay away from an 03 model with the 6.0 power stroke, I'm all for owning a late 04 to 07. Ours is an 04 XLT, super cab with the FX4 package. These 6.0's are amazing engines. True that the emmisions equipment can cause problems for the rest of the engine, but if pulling 10-12k pounds, off roading, and driving normally these trucks will perform reliably AS LONG AS YOU DO THE MAINTENANCE. Delete the EGR system altogether and you will triple the reliability. We have several of these in our family and one is approaching 400,000 miles. Regular service and maintenance is more expensive and there is no getting around that. If you intend to install an electronic tuner, you should definitely delete the EGR system among other upgrades. At 117k miles, I am getting 20 or more mpg. New Bilstein 5100 shocks all the way around recently and it rides like a new truck. Do yourself a favor and find one of the late 04 to 07 models for 12-16k dollars and have a truck you can do something with. Buying new will result in 60k or more with an engine (6.7L) that is nowhere close to proven reliability of the 6.0."
"I bought the truck from its original owner and a great friend. It was well maintained, the transmission had to be rebuilt before 150000, and shortly after my purchase the torque converter went out again. 245,000. Hopefully with the Billet TC $850.00 part alone, this will make it more than the last."
"Bought this to do heavy work, and that it does well!
Pulling, Towing, or just a "bed full", it holds it's own.
Drives "Lite", just as good.
I have a "late '04", W/factory re-man turbo. So far, no issues."
"One of the Greatest trucks that Ford has ever built!
There will never be another one that can fully take it's place. The Legendary 7.3 Powerstroke engine just lasts forever with no major issues. Unless we get rid of the EPA, there will never be another great pickup like this one come off of an assembly line again."
Cons: "Can't think of any, I use it for all occasions."

"I bought this truck in 2004, had one owner and 20k miles on it. 7.3 Ltr. Turbo, 6 Speed, manual transmission, comfortable for long drives and tows my 39' Triple Slide out fifth wheel effortlessly. It may not have all the "Bells and Whistles" of some of these new trucks, but hey, Trucks are for dependability and durability, not to just cruise and look cool. Oh yes, they are also made of steel, not "Plastic and fake tape on chrome. Yup, FORD TOUGH."
"I've had to make a few repairs, as is expected on any vehicle with this many miles.
The only truly bad thing about this truck is the hydraboost brake system. At low speeds, the steering wheel WILL NOT turn. This is a known issue which Ford does not care to fix. Besides that, it's a truck, and does what a truck should"
