"I have put 50,000 miles on this truck personally and I've drove it all over and worked it very hard. I've only done regular maintainance on it and it currently has 170,000 on it now and still has plenty of life left!!"

The best work truck I've ever owned.

Pros: "A top notch, reliable work truck."

Cons: "That odometer light stays off more than on."

"I wanted a truck, not a sports car that haul's lumber.I chose this model because in was as plain as I could find. Purchased used with 36000 miles in 2002, I have yet to adjust the clutch much less replace it. Aside from brakes, 3 batteries and tires, the only thing I've replaced is the alternator at 205000 miles. The emergency brake cable broke at 190000, the odometer light has always been intermitent and both back doors stopped opening at 200000. Maybe I'll fix them someday. With no trailer (a little underpowered with)I average 19-20 MPG with synthetic oil. I can do much of the routine maintenence with little headache. I've slept in the back (bring some chair cushions)more than I've slept in my bed (job travel, not wife problems). It's a fairly comfortable drive, roomy enough and I've only cussed it twice in 11 years."

97' F-150 XLT

"I've owned my 1997 Ford F-150 XLT flare-side for about a year. It has the 4.6 V8 and 4x4 off-road package. Overall, this is a fantastic truck! The only issue I've had is an exhaust leak, which I fixed by putting a flow-master dual exhaust system on. My truck gets about 16 mpg combined in town and highway, which is not bad for a 16 year old full size 4x4 truck. My truck has been very reliable. I do have the tow package, and use it frequently for a 12 foot utility trailer and it handles great! Truck has plenty of power for towing and decent get up and go for a full size 4x4 pickup. I perform all routine maintenance on it and keep records of everything. Other than the exhaust, I have made no other repairs to the truck other than routine maintenance (oil changes, brake pads, air filter etc.) My ford has nearly every available option with the exception of the leather interior. It has the 17 inch wheel package with a set of A/T tires. 4x4 works great and does not spin a tire in the snow. I believe it may be aftermarket, but my truck also has a rhino spray in bed liner that is very convenient for hauling loads and prevents rust, dings and dents. The flip up sunroof does not leak at all, all electronics (6 disc CD player power windows/locks, remote start, A/C etc.) work flawlessly. I did replace all factory speakers with aftermarket replacements (kicker) because the factory speakers were deteriorated due to age. Overall, the truck is very solid, transmission shifts smoothly, engine runs very strong and is reliable. It can handle a load, but is also a comfortable and very spacious daily driver. I've had my truck for about a year and still love it! My next truck will definitely be another Ford"

Pros: "When you need speed you got it! Power to spare."

Cons: "gas mileage not so great, but never a concern"

"I bought this truck new in 1998 in Decatur, Al at a dealer that is no longer there. I traded in a Chevy Scottsdale pickup due to excessive mechanical difficulties and not really knowing much about Ford trucks. I have now been driving my F-150 back and forth from Birmingham to Huntsville on a regular basis for many years and it has never broken down. It has been the best and most reliable truck one could ever imagine and i would not hesitate to recommend a Ford pickup to anyone. I hate to give it up but am going to by a new F-150 within the next month."

"It amazes me every time I drive this truck how powerful this truck is and all it can do considering how old it is. The only thing I dislike about it is that it has bad crash ratings, but otherwise is a great truck."
