"I love these cars! Living in New England, we get clobbered with snow and my Explorers have never let me down! I've owned both the V6 and the V8s. The V8 has more get up and go, but the V6 is pretty decent too.
Now these do have their quirks like most other cars. They are notorious for electrical problems regarding ABS lights and door ajar messages, door actuators and blend doors going on them, front end components and transmissions. If you stay on top of things though and watch for the signs, it's easy to maintain and repair these issues with common sense, proper maintenance and online research on different forums. Change your fluids and just know that all parts don't last forever, especially suspension parts (It's a truck after all)!"
Pros: "Nice ride, It was a 7 passenger, and a great size."
Cons: "powerless, and the click of death on the HVAC."

"The Explorer has been exceptional. I have owned it since new and have been happy with the car. The only problem I ever had was the click of death, which was the HVAC stops working. The part is about $80 and a huge headache to get too. Other than that, just regular maintenance."
"Bought this car new in 2002 and have over 210,000 miles on it. I have never had any major problems with it just minor stuff that wears out on all cars but no engine or transmission problems. I plan to drive this car until it dies which wont be for a long time. The mechanic I go to is amazed at how great of condition the engine and transmission are in with this many miles. I highly recommend this car to anyone."
"I replaced this transmission with 59000 miles on this 2003 ford explorer at a cost of 3800.00 dollars from the ford dealer. this car cost so much money to maintain over the 11 years I owned it. the paint job was good I had no nicks or dents in it. I was forced to get rid of it when the transmission went again."
