"On the verge of 300,000 miles with this baby. Great vehicle. Motors and transmission is solid. Best designed vehicle I've owned. Replaced a few minor parts and had bands tightened in the tranny. Total repair investment over the life of the vehicle is $2,500. For owning this car for almost 10 years, that's a steal. Changed oil regularly and maintained some of the factory recommended components. Overall, if you can get your hands on one of these models, you'll do well. Based on the strength of the motor at this time, we should see 400,000 without problems. The body will wear out before the components do."

"This car has been one of the best that I have owned. The engine with 249000 miles on it has been untouched by a mechanic except for oil changes and a alternator at 152000 miles At 248500 miles I replaced valve cover gaskets and front rear end seals. At 180000 miles I replaced the right rear wheel seals."

"I bought my 2004 Explorer (AWD Eddie Bauer)in December of 2006 with just over 35,200 miles on the clock. Since then, I've had maintenance done as needed, including control arm, belt & tensioner and wheel bearing replacement, along with (now) 2 batteries and 2 sets of tires. Yes, these are normal wear items. With over 185,000 miles, it has never let me down! I had to replace the rear ABS sensor too, but my out of pocket expense has been minimal, aside from fuel. For what it is, I can't complain. It's still using the factory starter and alternator! ALL electronics still work, the leather is still solidly together, it holds all I need it to daily and my family and friends STILL typically choose this over their vehicles when we ride together! I wish Ford still made them just like this one."
