"I picked up my new Explorer on May 15, 1995. It has been totally reliable with only occasional brake work required and a transmission replacement at 175,000 miles. I just put the forth set of new tires on it that now have less than 300 miles. Driving visibility is the best of any vehicle I've ever owned or driven. My grand nieces and nephew had driving lessons in this vehicle and prefer to drive it over much newer vehicles. I LOVED this car. Unfortunately, on May 22nd, my grand nephew was using the car for errands when a young man in a Chevy Yukon made a left turn directly in front of him. Because my grand nephew was going the speed limit (45 mph) the damage was significant. Both vehicles were totaled. I say all of this to point out that this remarkable, reliable vehicle, likely saved my grand nephew from severe injury or possible death. After 20 years of great service, the air bags deployed perfectly and he walked away without a scratch. I will desperately miss this vehicle because I kept it in tip top condition and I used it for delivering Meals on Wheels and many other activities for which my smaller, newer vehicle is not suited. Thank you Ford Motor Corporation for a great 20 years and for the health and safety of my grand nephew."
"This truck has been so reliable and is a real quality vehicle. I am Only selling it because my parents decided to buy a new truck without my consent and i am having a terrible time with the idea of selling her. She is durable and has been my right hand vehicle to get out and go to tow anything ive put her way. If it was up to me id keep it until the end of days!"
"We have put 130k miles on this Explorer and have never touched the exhaust system, second set of tires, just put in a battery for the second time. I tow with it and sleep in the back at race events...comfortable in all ways. I have replaced front hubs, radiator, alternator, but on a cost/mile basis, this Explorer owes me nothing."
"1996 ford explorer xl with a 162000 miles , it needs a idle sensor. It has a 4.0 liter motor, 2 WD, and all power! Me and my girl used to drive it in and out of town on trips. It cranks and runs right now!!! We have our own cars now and that one has to go!!!"
