"I bought my Explorer in 1996. The only initial problem I had was they had to install a new computer as the engine light kept coming on. Since then, I have had no problems except normal maintenance. A few rust spots have appeared in the last two yrs along the running boards and wheel wells; I never fixed the ABS when it went out; and I have two upholstery holes and the console is torn; other than that, my car is in "like new" condition with 160,000 miles. I hate to get a new car, but I think it's almost time. It will definitely be another Explorer. I can only hope for the same performance this vehicle has given me all of these yrs!"

I own this car - My approximate mileage is 183,000overall rating 8 of 10rating details
Pros: "- 4x4, cabin, cushy seat, great urban city vehicle"
Cons: "exterior noise, factory radio is awful, rusting"
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 7
"I purchased this vehicle at 28,000 miles. It now has 183,000 miles. I've done the normal maintenance. Brakes, oil changes, tranny oil changes, etc. I've change the alternator, timing belt change, ball joints, shocks and rebuilt the transmission. Generally the vehicle has held up. The vehicle is starting to rust below the doors. The running boards rusted to the point that that made the vehicle look pretty bad so I had them removed. The A/C, heat, and all controls still work. The backlights on the dash are starting to blank out, but they gauges are all still working. The door locks started to go out, but after constantly spraying wd-40 in the doors, they continue to work on both doors. Despite all the things I've done, the only complaint is the rusting below the doors. The reliability of this vehicle is pretty good. I think I'v gotten my money's worth and I would recommend if purchasing one, try to get one that isn't from the midwest where the winters are filled with salted roads that decay the body of most american cars. Overall I would recommend this vehicle."

I own this car - My approximate mileage is 160,000overall rating 6 of 10rating details
Pros: "electric windows-locks and seats nice"
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 2
"The seats are too long, I'm 5'7 and just can't get comfortable in these seats; if I raise it, the legs go up more than my but,so that's not helpful. I'm afraid to go up' to Palomar Mtn or even Ramona in this thing...I feel such a drag....but I'm told they just don't have a lot of power-- so nothing wrong to fix. And now the electric lock is a drag; If I or someone try to open before I click locks- the drivers side lock stays stuck locked - I have to climb in the passenger side."

I own this car - My approximate mileage is 215,000overall rating 9 of 10rating details
Pros: "Low maintenance, especially for a V8"
Cons: "Cheap interior, not a real smooth ride."
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 9
"This has been the best vehicle I have ever owned. 215,000 miles and going strong. Impressive for a V8. It has never broken down on me and the repairs have been few and far between. Drives like a truck, so not the most comfortable for long distance trips, but that would be my only complaint."
