Pros: "handles trailers very well, has plenty of torque"

Cons: "wind bounces it around"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"I bought this machine for towing a 30 ft travel trailer. I have owned towing machines since 1960. I always had to build up the suspension, and add transmission cooling and use the largest engine available. This one came with everything I needed including 7.3 diesel to handle any size trailer. The only downside is, it does not buck the wind very well. The very size of this vehicle is the answer to that problem I have towed over 35% of the 300,000 miles I am very sorry Ford no longer builds this vehicle."

Where do we go now?

""Where do we go now" is what we ask myself/ourselves just because we own this AWSOME beast of an SUV! With some good tires and the diesel 4x4 options, there aren't many places we can't go. We bought our first 2000 excursion a year used and had it for 11 long, hard, family haulin, pet taxi, trailer tuggin, 4 whl camping, years!, and still the limited was classy and could pull right up into a country club. With 282k mi on the gauge and the finding of an 04 with ridiculous low miles for a decent price, we let the 7.3 go and picked up the 6.0. I had some issues that equivocated to more than I had spent the entire time I had the 7.3, but I now have the truck dialed in and she is ready for me to depend on for a while I'm hoping. The gentleman who purchased mine is still driving it daily and has really enjoyed all the features i did, the thing just wont give up!! The gas mileage is just excellent for a 9000# hogger. A turn and burn to Salt Lake City I got 17.5 mpg at 85mph! And around town its 15/16 all day long. We fit two families and conserve fuel even more! Leading back to the question, "where do we go now"? There is absolutely NO vehicle on the market right now, nor has there been, since I purchased and owned this line of SUV, that I'd want to buy or own or drive! I'm out somewhere, I see something I need or someone call and needs a lift, THERE IS NO ill be back i gotta... Its all right there in the one huge comfy safe fast beautiful powerful economical package of the great FORD EXCURSION! I LOVE MY FOR EXCURSION!!! LOVE!!!"

Pros: "well worth the value pays for itself"

Cons: "gas milage 8-10 mpg city 11-13 mpg hwy"

"I wish I got a little better in gas miles, but its 13 years old runs like new I've had it forever it seems. Its been packed with kids who destroy everything and the truck has survived. Its been back and forth to home depot a million times its carried my new kitchen, bathrooms, flooring, a new house worth of drywall, its hauled trailers filled to the rim every weekend. Its towed big boats and loaded them in and out of the water. Its driven through hurricane winds, and through roads that were like rivers. Its hauled 3 goats 6 chickens 2 rabbits a fish in a jar with 2 adults and three kids (2 of them teens) and a beagle on 10 hour trips with room to spare (all in the truck) every season for the last 5 years. Its pulled 100 year old trees out of the ground all while keeping my precious babies safe. I've slide off a mountain side in it with 3 kids and we all made it safely out the window a tow truck pulled it up out of a tree and we drove home in it because its just that tough. we've pilled 6 teenagers in it to a drive in with 2 little ones and there was room to spare so no fighting. I've hauled a whole track team to meets in it. Its seen the east coast up and down without a problem. Its never failed me through snow and ice to the hottest of days that could melt rubber to the road.I never thought I could love a truck, but I love this truck! through every season every condition mud, snow, sand, water this truck carries its weight and then some. There has probably never been a truck made this well its the strongest I've ever known, everyone around me that does the things I do and less has replaced their trucks over and over and I can't find anything like it anywhere I wish they made new ones because my son's want to drive one and I'm not ready to let go of mine!"

Pros: "Power, safety, stability, V10 is great"

Cons: "Power door locks stink. $$ to fill up"

2001 Ford Excursion XLT 4WD 180k miles

"I have owned this one for years. Only a fuel pump in 180k miles. V10 gets 11.4mpg but cheaper to operate then the diesels with fuel cost. Smooth as glass at 85mph and the V10 pulls like a horse at any speed. I have never had any issues expect the power door locks are horrible. There is a work around online. Other than that it is the best designed full size SUV there is. Ford should not have backed down to the environmentalist whackos and kept building this beast. There is more recyclable material in the Excursion than the Prius. If your driving around more than a few people then this is the vehicle to have. Even at 180k, its as tight as day one."

Pros: "See above"

Cons: "You can not buy anything like it any more."

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"Long trips, towing, dogs, camping, seat 9 people, put 2000 pounds of stuff in it, just about anything you want to do with a vehicle, it can handle it. On trips, we have food, folding chairs and picnic table, back packing stuff, two dogs, cloths hanging across the back, and keep two sleeping bags rolled out full length in back. On a 2400 mile trip to national parks in Utah we got 21.5 mpg avg doing 70-75mph freeway and 10mph in the dirt. It's been absolutly reliable."
