I own this car - My approximate mileage is 311,000
overall rating 10 of 10rating detailsLikely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10
"Bought this car brand new in 1997 so all these 311,000 miles I have put on. This has been the best car I have ever owned. It has very little mechanically go wrong. Usual items..brakes, a couple tie rods, serpentine and timing belt. Just replaced my 1st fuel pump and still running fantastic. Still the original clutch. Can anyone else say after 311,000 miles they still have the original clutch and starter for that matter. Dont think you ever should have quit making this car. This is rated a 10+++++++ by me. Never been wrecked either."

I own this car - My approximate mileage is 155,000
overall rating 10 of 10rating detailsPros: "Smooth ride, good visibility."
Cons: "Doesn't handle ice very well at all."
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10
"I love the way the car drives. The ride is smooth and it can make really sharp turns. I also love how easy it is to see everything, I feel like I have no blind spots. I think this car is pretty ugly, but that's not really the point of a car, now is it!"

I own this car - My approximate mileage is 162,700
overall rating 9 of 10rating detailsPros: "Fun to drive, acceleration, handling"
Cons: "Rough Idle w A/C on"
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 9
"2002 SE Sedan Got this w/161,500. I've had in now for about a month and a half here in Tampa. Handles terrifically and has a nice "pop" of acceleration for a 4 cylinder automatic. City gas mileage has been in the mid to upper 20s. Have yet to take a "road trip," but I look forward to it. This is a comfortable, well-built car the has a tiny turning radius. OEM sound system is quite good, too. The back seats are a little tight for adults, and the car idles hard with the a/c on. My understanding, though, is that such is not atypical for '97-'03 models. For a "get around town" type transportation, I think the Escort is a winner."

I own this car - My approximate mileage is 215,000

Cons: "4 cyclinder vibrations around 100,000 miles"

"This review is for 2001 and 2002 Ford Escort SE NOT the ZX2 sports car. I got a deal because I paid $8,000 cash with no financing. In 2003, I totaled my 2001 SE when a driver going wrong direction on interstate hit me head on. I walked away. I received enough for car to buy a 2002 SE with all cash and no financing. [Tip--never finance.]. I put 215,000 miles on the 2002 car. Yes, you read that right--215,000 miles. Repairs were one gear shift thing (under $40), regular oil/spark plugs type maintenance, high mileage tires, brake lights (under $5), turn signal bulb (under $5), timing belt and related belts (under $300 from retired mechanic versus thrown engine price at regular dealer--tip: this happened at 200,000 miles and was a design flaw that was corrected in 2003 model). Regardless of what others say. I put 215,000 miles in 10 years and average gas mileage before corn was 38 and now is 33 in summer and 35 rest of year. I was planning to keep it forever, but an 18 wheeler totaled it. I walked away. Car saved my life twice. Ford discontinued car in 2003 to make 25 mpg fuel efficient vehicles. Go figure."
