"The Escape handles well - especially in winter weather. Snow is no match. The cargo space is great for all of those trips to Lowe’s. For the most part, the vehicle runs well, but has spent more and more time in the shop the older it gets. My word of advice is: be careful - this vehicle is NOT durable! What I have discovered and verified by more than one mechanic is that Ford OEM parts are not good quality. At 85k miles now, I have replaced several items – conveniently, problems began shortly after the 36k mile warranty expired. I maintain the vehicle fairly regularly, but in the 4+ years I have owned it, it has failed inspection 3 times for one reason or another! Suspension repairs – have replaced both CV joints and both front bushings within 3 years. I do not take this vehicle off-road or haul trailers or any excessive cargo. I typically drive this car on the highway (to and from work) and in the city. Make sure you religiously rotate your tires and align the vehicle or your tires will quickly wear unevenly. I have had to replace tires twice. I’ve also replaced brakes and rotors twice. But most recently (and most seriously), when the vehicle was again in the shop (this time to repair an exhaust leak near the manifold - another $500) they discovered that 2 bolts securing the engine were mysteriously “broken off”. This repair will cost another $1,500 and 4-5 days in the shop and could lead to head gasket issues if not fixed. Plus they can’t fix the exhaust problem until this is corrected which would cause the vehicle to fail its next state inspection. It is still a mystery as to why this happened. Aside from the mechanical issues, the other negatives are that fuel efficiency is poor for a smaller SUV and it doesn't have as much power as you would think a V6 would have. It is also noisy on the highway. Perhaps, it’s nothing more than bad luck (or opportunistic mechanics) and once I fix this, maybe I can drive it another 50k miles with no problems, but at this point, the cost of ownership on this vehicle has been unacceptable. I will not buy another Ford again. I'll go back to foreign cars that have better track records for quality and reliability."

"Great vehicle. Bought mine as a lease trade in. Has over 100,000 miles. Tight car no noises absolutely no leaks."

Remember this is a truck.

"This is a wonderful vehicle, BUT it is a truck. This model does not have a great climate control system and the gear shift is mounted on the steering column allowing it extends too far towards the front passenger seat, patially covering some controls. It also has MAJOR BLINDSPOTS so set your mirrors very carefully. Now the good news: it uses regular unleaded gas getting about 20 MPG, has great pick-up for highway merge and has very comfortable seats. It carries lots of stuff with the rear seats folded away and is confortable on long highway trips. The anti-lock brakes are good. This model has 4-WD only when selected. The front-wheel drive is adequate for most road conditions encountered in the New York City suburban area. I have had the need for the 4-WD only once and it worked fine. However, I don't think I would like to take this car off-road. Overall: for suburban driving and hauling stuff, this is a well designed vehicle."

"We purchased our 03 Escape with 17 miles on it. Now it has 95,000. It has pulled a 3,000 lbs camper with no problems throughout the US."
