I own this car - My approximate mileage is 55,000
overall rating 8 of 10rating detailsPros: "Safe, Fast, Spacious"
Cons: "Noisy, Trans issues"
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 8
"I got my 2004 Escape in 2008 with only 13,000 miles, and I still use it. Overall, I'm very happy with it. The interior's super roomy, the back cargo area holds a ton of stuff. The V6 engine is super powerful - on the highways I can get past anyone, at any time. My kids love riding in it, and my husband and I have driven it all over the place. Very comfy, lots of leg room, and most of all, very safe. My two main complaints are as follows: 1) The transmission died at 50,000 miles. It just fell apart. Basically the mechanic said that in this truck it has a weakness in the trans. It has to be driven like it's brand new. Any roughness at all could cause the trans to fail. So $3,200 and a rebuilt trans later, I'm ensuring that I am super careful with how I shift it into other gears (I have an automatic, but whatever). 2) Cabin noise. I do a lot of driving each month (1,000 miles a month), and I can hear the highway roaring underneath the truck as I drive. It's deafening. Since I don't see myself getting a newer vehicle anytime soon, I'm considering the idea of having sound-proofing installed underneath the truck to block some of it out. I'm not a picky person -- it's THAT loud."

I own this car - My approximate mileage is 215,000
overall rating 8 of 10rating detailsPros: "comfy, roomy, great quality for price"
Cons: "not the greatest on gas, average consumption."
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 9
"I bought this car as a used vehicle. Had it for three years now. It's the 2001 model, V4 engine, 5-spd manual. Very nice spacious interior and easy to drive. The shifting mechanics are just now starting to feel slightly clunky, but it still drives well. I hope to get at least another 20k on it. I would definitely recommend this car to others."

I own this car - My approximate mileage is 97,500
overall rating 9 of 10rating detailsPros: "Gas mileage, size, finishes, practical, navigation"
Cons: "Slightly under powered in certain circumstances"
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 9
"Bought my 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid brand new. It has been a total workhorse for me. Comfortable to drive, adequate power when needed, great handling. I love using the integrated mileage graphics to watch how it uses power. I get between 26-32 mpg average, which is great for an SUV. It switches seamlessly between electric and gas mode, and can run on strictly electric at times. Mostly it runs with a hybrid gas/electric model, and only rarely runs just on the gas motor. It is built like a tank too! The batteries are below the floor in back and have a lot of reinforced steel around them. I was rear ended at highway speed last year and had minimal damage."

"I really like this car, its fun to drive has plenty of power when needed, I never felt like I was going to get stuck when driving in semi deep snow (8"+) I would almost just drive it till it collapsed but I have the opportunity to get given a newer car free that is a bit better car in most respects."

"We have 260,000 plus miles. Other than things you would expect to wear out at 100,000-plus miles, it has been very low maintenance. It has never gotten stuck in our WI winters. It has survived seven accidents with wayward deer. Very comfortable to ride long distances. Sound system is quite nice. Love it, Love it, Love it!!"
