By masterfully combining the best attributes of a responsive but comfortable sedan with those of a versatile and roomy SUV, the 2010 Ford Edge fulfills the promise of the Crossover Utility Vehicle (CUV) like no other example to date. It also demonstrates impeccable timing, earning a spot last year as the nation's best-selling crossover, proof that many car-based CUV sales are now overtaking their truck-based SUV counterparts. The Ford Edge might not have the capability to impact the market in the same way as the automaker's Taurus sedan of 1986 or the Explorer SUV of 1991, but the fact that it's good enough to get mentioned in the same sentence as those milestones says quite a bit.
Softer than some, stiffer than others, the 2010 Ford Edge hits the mass-appeal sweet spot in ride and handling. Coupled with a refined, eager powertrain and notably quiet highway cruising, the roomy, comfortable, versatile Edge is an extraordinarily well-rounded way to move throughout the world.
The Ford Edge doesn't corner as aggressively as its sporty appearance may suggest. Its innovative design (and $40,000-plus price ceiling) might also have you expecting the availability of features like keyless entry and start and a third-row seat. For the small percentage of drivers that would utilize it, the Edge's lack of manumatic shift capability could be a disappointment.
For 2010, the Edge Sport gets new 20-inch wheels while a new Limited Interior Appearance Package is added to the options list. Refinements to this year's drivetrain result in improved city/highway fuel economy.
Driving Impressions In the city and on the highway, the 2010 Ford Edge met or exceeded nearly all of our high expectations. More significant than how quickly the Edge was able to...
merge and pass was how pleasantly it did so, with none of the racket and drama we might have expected from such a vehicle only a few years ago. At cruising speeds, we were impressed by an appreciably quiet cabin and a notably comfortable ride. Only when the road began to wind and curve, and we began to push it harder, did the Edge reveal any noteworthy limitations, although we nonetheless consider the suspension, steering and brakes ideally balanced for the vehicle's purpose in life.Available Remote Seatback Release
For loading larger items, the split rear seatback folds flat at the push of two cargo area-mounted buttons.
Available "Vista Roof" Glass Sunroof
Open or closed, the Edge's massive glass sunroof really livens up the passenger cabin. There's even a second, fixed glass panel over the second row.
Interior
The Edge's more familiar interior styling doesn't quite live up to the expectations set by its cutting-edge sheetmetal, but it's nonetheless attractive, comfortable and spacious. Highlights include an especially roomy back seat with reclining seatbacks and a center console big enough to swallow a laptop or purse. Available niceties include the dual pane Vista Roof, remote seat release buttons that let you fold the rear seatbacks flat from the cargo area and a fold-flat front passenger seat that allows for the transport of items up to eight feet in length. New for 2010 is the Limited Interior Appearance Package that adds Sienna leather seats with contrasting stitching, dark brushed aluminum center stack panel and "Edge" embossed floor mats.
Exterior
By resisting the urge to add even a small, "just in case" third-row seat, Ford's designers were able to give the Edge the sleeker, sportier profile that helps set it apart from the crowd. The view from the side is marked by a large but subtle rear spoiler, short front and rear overhangs and well-defined wheel arches framing 17-inch aluminum wheels. The front of the vehicle is dominated by a version of the three-bar chrome grille that debuted on the first Ford Fusion sedan, while the back is defined by dual exhaust outlets, a big, unapologetic Ford oval and clear-lens taillamps. Edge SEL and Limited models are distinguished by 18-inch wheels, front fog lights, chrome exhaust tips plus body-color mirrors, door handles and spoiler. The Sport rides on 20-inch rims with a massive 22-inch set available, a first in this segment.
In addition to the 3.5-liter V6 and six-speed automatic transmission, a base Edge SE includes power windows/locks/mirrors, remote keyless entry, single-disc CD/CD-MP3 sound system, auxiliary audio input jack, reclining rear seatbacks and 17-inch aluminum wheels, A comprehensive set of standard safety equipment includes front, front-side and two-row side-curtain airbags, plus electronic stability control with rollover mitigation.
Features not included on a base Edge include the two-panel Vista Roof, EasyFold trunk-mounted remote rear-seat release, voice-activated navigation system with SIRIUS Travel Link, DVD rear-seat entertainment system, power rear liftgate, SYNC hands-free communication and entertainment system with 911 Assist, reverse sensing system, premium six-disc audio system, leather seating, power and heated front seats and fold-flat passenger seat.
In addition to Ford's newest V6, the Edge's powertrain features a cutting-edge six-speed automatic transmission that's the product of a joint development program between Ford and GM. The available all-wheel-drive system functions in front-wheel-drive mode until a need for additional traction is detected. In true crossover fashion, the Edge is built upon the same platform as Ford's Fusion sedan. Maximum towing capacity is 3,500 pounds.
3.5-liter V6
265 horsepower @ 6250 rpm
250 lb.-ft. of torque @ 4500 rpm
EPA city/highway fuel economy: 18/25 (FWD), 17/23 (AWD)

I own this car - My approximate mileage is 40,000
overall rating 9 of 10rating detailsPros: "Smooth ride with tons of room"
Cons: "None that I can think of at the moment"
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10
"Overall our 2010 Edge has been a great crossover. It drives likes a car and has tons of room comparable to any mid sized SUV. The interior could certainly be improved (which it was in the new 2011 model) but is perfectly fine and comfortable. Other than a new battery and a minor sensor glitch, we've had no problems with our Edge and are completely satisfied with its versatility and quality. There isn't much to say other than you really can't go wrong if you decide to buy one new or used."

I own this car - My approximate mileage is 13,500
overall rating 7 of 10rating detailsPros: "Average driving experience."
Cons: "The console takes up too much space. SYNC sucks."
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 1
"2010 onboard SYNC is a joke, usually does not work, cannot understand English and cannot locate the cell phone. Transmission was rebuilt at 11200 miles. When they dropped the transmission they found a broken bolt inside of it. Kept the car three days to work on it, under warranty. At <13500 miles the transmission is slipping again and will be going in for service. This is not acceptable, I am a gentle driver using the vehicle only locally. My main complaint, aside from mechanical, is the huge front seat console that takes up so much room."

By I didn't used to like Ford... (AK) on Thursday, March 07, 2013
I own this car - My approximate mileage is 17,000
overall rating 9 of 10rating detailsPros: "Style, gadgetry, fun, AWD, great for the road!"
Cons: "maybe gas mileage...but it isn't really bad."
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10
""I didn't used to like Ford, I was more a GM guy, if not a Toyota one. But, my wife told me she liked the Edge...skeptically I decided to look at it. I had already looked at some things I thought I had liked. All it took was a turn of the key...instantly I fell in love. The dash lit up, all the electronic and slick looking interior had me entranced. Then I drove it. All I could say was "I usually don't like Ford...but I am going to buy this car." I explained to the salesman that I was buying it, he didn't even have to pitch it to me. There was no sales tactic needed. It has been over a year now, and not a regret, not one. The only thing that I could improve would be the gas mileage. But, we live in Alaska, so in the winter we leave it running a lot. Great in the snow and ice, even with all-season tires, I don't even use studs or Blizzaks due to the great AWD and handling. To top it all off, it looks great and is super comfortable. Surprisingly I think that this quality car has taken me from my GM loyalties...I am now a Ford guy.""

I own this car - My approximate mileage is 43,000
overall rating 10 of 10rating detailsPros: "Super comfy, sturdy, smooth ride, great looking"
Cons: "Little pricy, blind spots"
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10
"I cannot say enough amazing things about this vehicle. I've only owned it for a short while now, but i love it. I bought a used 2010 SEL with 43000km on it and it has been a dream. The only negative thing i've found to possibly say about it is the blind spots; they're a little difficult to navigate, but the mirrors have the cut out that let you see further into the other lane so its not a huge deal. I feel so safe in this vehicle, and the ride is so smooth. Even my boyfriend who has said many times he will ONLY buy trucks, said he would purchase this vehicle for himself as well."

I owned and sold this car
Reason: Excessive Road noise, rough riding, SYNC electrical problems, no heated mirrors - My approximate mileage is 20,000
Pros: "Paint color"
Cons: "Noisy, rough riding, problems"
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 1
"Not impressed, should never had bought - very noisy, rough riding (you can burn your self with hot coffee driving down a good flat road with minimal imperfections); you can feel every crack and tar snake in this vehicle. Also no heated mirrors - bad for winter states; mysterious Sync electrical problems - radio, horn and lights will come on at times, dealer says this can happen at times......my 2010 Dodge Journey beats this vehicle hands down, may need to buy another Journey!"
