"I purchased this car simply because I got a great deal & it was the better of the 2 the dealer had picked out for me. Never owned a Dodge before & wasn't too sure about them with the rep they've gotten, too expensive to fix, break down all the time, just all around inconvenient for my situation. Broke, single mom, no vehicle at all, but 60,000 miles and 3 years old, it was a great deal. Now, it has 142,000 miles on it 7 years later & it has taken us across the country & back, through weather & mud trucks were getting stuck in, hits 125 on the speedometer easily & plus some I'm sure, with only a few breakdowns (sensors mainly)& several sets of tires. The red color seems to attract collisions as ins. co. say because it has been hit and totaled 3 times now (literally hit as in parked at the curb & backed into). This year is a unibody so most of the body damage isn't easily fixed but if you can live with the dents etc, its paid for itself twice over. I swear its made of rubber & we call it the big red piñata. The flex fuel 2.7L V6 does have issues with the catalytic converters & are still very expensive to fix..unreasonably expensive. Several Dodge mechanics have recommended not running the E85 in this car because of the carbon/exhaust issues, it apparently burns out the converters faster triggering the check engine light. It runs fine after this happens & at $4,000 to replace the converters ($1,000 just for those alone) & O2 sensors etc, 3 years ago, I've been driving it with the check engine light on & bad converters. Run Lucas fuel treatment through any Dodge vehicle, they'll last a lot longer, run better, & keep the good gas mileage. My Stratus got around 32mpg when I first got it & that's a V6! Great car to travel in with the exception of interior space. The trunk is too small with the speakers placed in the back window taking up close to a foot away from the trunk space as far as the speakers hang down into it, but its worth it in sound quality. It sounds awesome for a stock stereo in a "family" type car. The interior is where I had the most frustration with & thought they could have done a lot more with just a few tweaks, move the shifter up & back just a bit so the cup holders are accessible! I love this car even being beaten, scratched, & fading now. My oldest son is turning 16 this year &, since he has helped me work on it for years now, is inheriting it for his school car. If you get a good one, it'll last till its a rust bucket. If you get a dud, get rid of it asap. I got a good one."

Driver side view.

"Very dependable, reliable vehicle, sporty, and fun to drive. Vehicle has fantastic performance, definetly the best in it's class. This vehicle features a 3.0,6 cylinder R/T engine, great gas mileage, leather seats, sliding power sunroof, power windows and door locks, premium sound system, power outside mirrors, Sirius Xm ready, legal tinted windows, factory rims, Goodyear tires. Very low mileage, have maintenance records."

Pros: "good value, few mechanical problems, fun to drive"

Cons: "picky about dealer parts and scheduled maintenance"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 9

"I've had my car for almost 5 years, put about 140,000 miles on it, used it for city and highway, as well as numerous roadtrips. I still love it. It has a pretty sporty design, so it sits low which can be annoying for taller or big people- I'm pretty average but my taller husband who was used to a truck felt like he was falling into it. Fun to drive, pretty good pickup for a 4cyl even at 216k miles. The body of mine only has small rust spots where it was scratched or dinged, otherwise body is in great shape. Other than when a mechanic failed to change the timing belt as paid for and it broke (at 126k, way over the due date), I've never spent more than $300 to fix anything. I did have a problem for a while with acceleration even after fixing the cam position sensor several times, but we found out we needed to use the dealer part, not an aftermarket (save yourself the trouble and do this! at least for the sensors). The muffler rusted out just last month, but that was a cheap fix. Otherwise, all maintenance-related mechanic trips. It's nice being able to go a year without calling about a car question with a car this old! Mine seemed to be sensitive to oil changes, so if I was way past due for one it would lose some power when accelerating. But it was a good reminder to get the oil changed, and the power immediately came back after that. Also, I should note that in Central MN, I regularly had to start this car on mornings where it was -30 or -40, and this car Never had to be jumped. Always started right away."

Pros: "Nice looking sporty car with a nice sounding engin"

Cons: "Scratches but still beautiful"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"Dodge Stratus 2004 Two door Rt coupe Black, ac, power windows, moon roof, CD radio, nice sounds, new rotor, new distributor cap, new spark plugs, new motor for drivers door, two-new tires, only three were matching when I purchased it, so I bought two new ones and kept one for spare, kept up with oil changes, new wipers, blk leather interior, which is all nice except for the drivers seat so I put seat covers and Armor All the seats, changed and updated a few other things of which I kept all my receipts for."

"I paid 19,000 USD for this vehicle in 2004. I drove off the lot with exactly 3 miles on the odometer... the Stratus has dependably traveled thru cities and down highways and endured 6 years of New England weather and pot holes before I found a reliable covered parking oppty. I would buy this model again."

Pros: "gas mileage and low maintenance costs"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"Best Car ever!! I bought this car with just 95 miles and I just hit 230,000 miles and only had minor maintenance - regular oil changes (about 5000-6000 miles), 1 set of brakes, 1 change of rear housings, only 1 battery, several sets of tires, and at about 228,000 I had to replace the radiator. This car handles well on the road all year round-even in the snow. Even with the high mileage I am still averaging around 28 mpg overall. The exhaust system will need to be replaced probably in the next year, but overall the car is still going strong. The car is not showing rust issues or any electrical problems. I hope I can get another 100,000 miles or more out of this car and it will be a great starter car for my kids as new drivers!"
