The Nitro offers buyers a dose of attitude in a category rife with "cute-utes."

About Dodge Nitro

The 2011 Dodge Nitro has a split personality. On one side, the Dodge Nitro is like any mid-size crossover offering seating for five, available all-wheel drive and an affordable sticker price. Then there is the Nitro's more extreme side, which displays bold and boxy styling, vivid color choices and massive 20-inch wheels. Placed side-by-side with a Honda CR-V or Chevrolet Equinox, the untrained observers would probably be hard pressed to place the Nitro in the same league. And, although the Nitro threatens to cannibalize sales from family members Jeep Liberty and Dodge Journey, Dodge isn't worried, saying the Nitro has its own unique niche defined by its artful blend of size, styling and features.

Pros: "Great fun to drive."

Cons: "Huge front windshield posts create blind spots."

"Comfortable and very road worthy. I can sit in this car all day long and not become tired or uncomfortable. Have made 5 trips from Phoenix to San Francisco with it and it is awesome. Plenty of room and ride is suprisingly smooth for an SUV. Doesn't handle like truck it is very stable. cornering is great. Average highway fuel mileage is approx 23 mpg.Great sound system and sirius sat radio. Only negatives are a few blind spots on the front windshield posts. Have the 3.7 liter engine with 4speed transmission. Wish I had the 4.0 with the 5 speed. It isn't as quick as i would like but not bad."

2008 Nitro R/T

"I Bought this '08 Nitro in 2011 with only 6500 miles on it. Its loaded with every possible option offered (Leather, Sirius, MP3, parking sensors, 20" chrome wheels, Subwoofer,Bluetooth, etc.) When I first discovered my Nitro on the internet I was skeptical initially of just how much I would like it having owned back to back ML350's prior to it. But all those fears quickly faded away the moment I saw and test drove it. My Nitro is newer, has less miles, is faster, is better looking and is far less expensive than my last Mercedes ever was. The gas mileage has proven to be just about the same as the Benz's 3.7 V6 but I no longer have to purchase astronomically priced premium gasoline. Now I must admit that I was a little leary of the orange paint as Im not usually so flashy and it took a little getting used to but now it only adds to the allure and uniquness of the vehicle. Ive seen quite a few other Nitros around but have yet to see one with the same color and options as mine. The tiny bit that I have sacrificed in quality and german craftmanship offered by my previous vehicle is greatly outweighed by all of the other benefits. I have zero regrets and and would reccomend this vehicle to anyone who is lucky enough to come across one similiarly equipped. Happy car shopping!!"

Pros: "A "tank" in the snow! Better than my old Jeep."

Cons: "Stiff legged ride"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"I have just turned 100K on my 'O7 Nitro 4X4 with the V-6, which I bought new. The car rides a little rough due to it's Jeep suspension, but it is tolerable. It has plenty of 'pep' and can turn on a dime. The brakes are effecient. With all the miles I have on it, I've never had a tune-up and still get up to 26 MPG if I set the cruise control at 55. Other than that it will usually give me around 22 to 23 MPG. I am *very* happy with my Nitro and would buy another. I guess to summarize .. this car is fun to drive, and own."
