New standard features include the addition of the Decel Fuel Shut Off system (which improves mileage by cutting fuel during deceleration), front row active head restraints and an air filtration system. SE and SXT trims receive a six-speaker audio system, heated side mirrors and stain resistant seat fabric, while the SXT offers leather seating, a new body-colored grille and front air dam and an express up front passenger window. The R/T trim has been dropped.
According to Dodge, the Nitro is the automaker's first midsize SUV. Just like its Durango big brother, however, the Nitro straddles a line between two segments, competing on some levels with vehicles from both the compact and midsize SUV categories. The Nitro's niche in the marketplace isn't defined by its measurements, though, but by its bold, unique styling.

"I bought the Nitro new and have really enjoyed this vehicle. It was my first new car. I needed something that was rugged and looked good. Since I live in the midwest in the Chicagoland area, the winters can be treacherous, so 4 wheel drive is essential. Also, having young kids, I needed something durable as well and something I didn't mind backing out of the garage. The Nitro has that youthful appeal with the style you expect out of vehicle in this price range. The ride is smooth and with the right features makes this a vehicle for anything you want to do, from hanging out at the beach, grabbing your snowboard and hitting some snow and even taking the family on a picnic. I also enjoy the fact that there is plenty of space for packing stuff on a roadtip. The electrical outlet in the back of the front cosole is a big plus for the kids when they want to plug in their dvd player. The milage is good for an SUV but like everyone else, I'd enjoy it if I could more milage out of any vehicle today. I am happy with my Nitro and look forward to future road trips while styling and profiling."

"I love the styling of this vehicle, I love driving it. The biggest problem is it isnt a smooth ride. It hesitates at idle and has even died. The gas mileage is average. The interior isnt stylist but I realized that when I bought it. No leg room in the front seating area. You have to reach to adjust any stereo changes. However, you cant beat a lifetime train coverage. I can drive this vehicle as long as it doesnt go belly up and I constantly have to put it in the shop. I probably would not have bought it if I did not have the Chrysler discount."

"Love this vehicle! Plenty of power and comfort. Gas mileage is fair and options are great. I especially like MyGate with its huge hard drive, and the ability to automatically connect to my cell phone for hand-free driving with the UConnect option. I highly recommend this SUV to anyone interested in a powerful, good-looking and comfortable vehicle. I get many compliments as to how the vehicle looks."
