"I've raised and driven 3 boys everywhere. They're now grown up w families of their own and still I stick with these great vans. Always bought second hand from private sellers whom I checked for integrity and honesty. I got their complete repair and maintenance history so I knew what I was getting. I purchased my 97 Gr Car in '05 w 104k on it already. Have had little to do for it other than replace A/C early on, a tie rod and bushings at some point, and a fuel pump... but in ten years that's it. It keeps running and serving my needs for short and long drives. It's still the most comfortable home on wheels I've ever owned, that gives me a cushioned ride so that I arrive feeling fine in the back, shoulders and legs as though I were riding in an upright LazyBoy. I wish it would last forever. I hope to keep it going until it dies, which I expect might happen at about 300k miles, though as I approach 200k I'm not as keen to take it on long road journeys. Just pampering it in town and for short highway jaunts of 3+ hours. Such a good engine; it deserves to be kept alive and not beaten to death! I do wish it did better on gas but then, I do think I have a wonderful old car as it does about 19 in town and I can get up to 25 on hwy. I think that's commendable for an 3.8 L engine this old pulling a hulk of a car like the Gr Caravan."

Best purchase I ever made!

"After 15 years now, if I could purchase this '99 Grand Caravan Sport again, I would do so in a heartbeat. It has quad seats, rear air, 3.3L, and dark glass. It is cavernous. The perfect vehicle to go on vacations with our two grade school children (when new). The only thing that I think that would be nice are the Stow N Go seats which were available on the next model. The seats about throw your back out to remove them. The only problem I have had is the air doesn't get us very cool over about 80 degrees and I have had to replace two power door locks and the radio. The clear coat is now peeling on the roof. It has 128,000 miles on it now. I still love this van."

"Bought this van used in Fresno, CA back in 2007. Did an overhaul the next day, changed the struts and shocks two years later and the breaks I have changed them twice since then. Is comfortable and my entire family had taken plenty of road trips in it. When living in CA we took it to Denver, CO. Flagstaff, AZ. The Grand Canyon, AZ. Las Vegas, NV. Portland, OR. Amarillo, TX. and came to visit family in South Bend, IN. Now we live in South Bend, IN and took it to Lancaster, PA. NYC, Niagara Falls in Canada, Chicago, and our most resent road trip last year from South Bend, IN to Orlando, St. Petersburg, Ft Myers, Sarasota, Miami, and Daytona Beach, FL. Over all its a great, comfortable, reliable minivan. We love it, and we are thinking on purchasing a newer one next year, ours have 163400 miles and still runs like a champ."

Pros: "easy access for ids"

Cons: "transmission is shifty"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 8

"I purchased this car in early 2009 so it was already 10 years old when I bought it. We were going on a trip across the state and the vehicle performed nicely. I think It did good going in the mountains too. About 2 years into owning it the transmission became shifty. Now 4 years after that it is still running without the transmission being replaced so I can't really complain. Twice it did something where you had to shut the car off and restart it and it seemed to fix the problem where it would lock in 2nd gear. I only had to replace the exhaust this year during our state inspection which is not too bad for an older vehicle. I actually miss driving it daily. My husband now drives this and I have an Envoy. This car was much easier to get the kids in and out of than my envoy. When my Caravan dies, I will probably buy another one."

Pros: "Reliable, Spacious, Comfortable, Easy parts access"

Cons: "transmission"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"I have the grand caravan with the 3.8, First off the power this thing puts out is impressive. the acceleration by far is better then any other mini i have driving, and it even handles well when you put the pedal down. The torque is pretty impressive as well. i pull a 4x8 utility trailer with about 1100 pounds of garbage in it, with no problem at all. As i don't have any children yet i rarely have the back seats in my van, this makes for a compact cargo van with the comforts of driving a sedan. Besides the known transmission problems, there is nothing about this van i would change. I hope this might have helped for anyone debating purchasing one of these butes."

"I wasn't sold on a minivan, but my wife was correct, it has been a great vehicle for us. I really like that our current caravan (we're on our third!) has the Sport suspension option."
