"This is my second durango, 1st one was a 2000 4wd, not one single problem, put on 132,000 miles then traded it in on a 05 HEMI Limited 4wd. Not a single problem at 37,000 miles. I have had many BMW's and other cars and this is the best car I have owned by far."
"My first American car, I leased it originally with a great deal on the outgoing 2004 model (newer style at the time). I just refinanced the rest of the value as it was going to cost $100 a month more to get the same kind of car today.
I got the towing package, meaning upgraded electronics and mirrors. The only blind spot I have is with the front windscreen pillars. Roof rack and running boards are a must.
The cargo space is huge - I've used it to carry a Grandfather Clock and even a 3-seater couch (!). Ride is smooth, sometimes the suspension can be a little too soft though (bounces nicely from side to side). Power is mostly in the mid to high range. Down-shifting is a little slow, but the trick is to switch to "Tow/Haul" mode and you'll drop a gear instantly for highway overtaking. Controls are easy and intuitive.
Minor hassles have included the CD player clicking and something funky with the steering that hasn't caused a problem but feels odd. A spark plug went out but that was after they were due for replacement. Overall few complaints. Great in the snow and ice, fantastic view of the road. I've run a laptop from the phone charger socket (with a power inverter). Even the 3rd row is roomy enough.
I can't stand driving anything else after driving this thing. Gas mileage for me has been 12 at the worst (snow driving in town) up to 19 (road trip with all highway driving). I drive 10 miles a day on average so it's not a huge problem.
If I could have got the same kind of deal on the 2007 model I'd have bought that."
"We purchased a new 05. We have owned it just under two years, 21000 miles. We tried to trade it in on a Volvo and we have $10,000 of negative equity. In two years, it has lost half of its value. Looks like we are stuck with it until the end, unless we win the Lotto :-)"
"We have had 3 durangos. a 2001, a 2004 and we just bought a 2007 2 weeks ago. Its a great vehicle. Good family car, great for pulling the boat, and great in the snow and ice at our mountain house. The 2004 has 75000 miles on it and works great-- we have had no problems with it. I expect the 2007 will be just as good!!!"
"Not a bad vehicle, but not great either. Consider:
PROS: Good power, excellent in the snow and mud. No real reliability issues. HEMI sounds good.
CONS: Mushy ride and handling. Fuel mileage is horrible (12 city - 15 hwy)! Resale value is poor, better lease this puppy or you'll lose your butt."
"The 2006 Durango with 5.7 Hemi is fun to drive. Lots of power. On vacation, the Durango handled the mountains with ease. If you need an SUV with AWD for snow and ice, the Durango is for you. This is our second Durango. Our 1998 is still going strong at 175,000 miles and both have performed well in winter weather."
"I am so pleased with this SUV. It's loaded, has tons of power and never gets boring to drive. The HEMI averages 20 MPG HWY and 17 around town which is great! It has sharp looks and drives like a luxury car. I am keeping it forever!"
"Very nice Vehicle , stylish , Rides and drives very smooth . very comfortable . Very fast on acceleration when needed . Can sway a little on curves around 50 mph or faster . some engine noise when eccelerating . But over all a very good vehicle ...."
"I bought this vehicle with the Hemi new in 2006. Had problems from the start. It has many great features, great radio, DVD. Not enough leg room in the back seat for my two kids. Not enough storage space. Traded in an Armada that had minor problems. The driver door vibrates when shut. Bad wind noise. Vibration when going over 65. Dealer said is normal. I've driven many vehicles and never have had vibration this bad. Mileage is ok for a vehicle this size. Could be better. Value dropped 50% after six months. Want to trade but with such negative equity I won't be able to for years and then it won't be worth anything. Wish I'd kept the Armada."
"For the money this is the best SUV in its class. It has so much room compared to its competitors, very stylish, Great on Gas and has enough torque to pull everything I want. I purchased the Durango in Oregon and had no problem traveling on Mount Hood in the winter. The one I have is all wheel drive with 4 wheel drive at the turn of a switch. Has no problems traveling to and on the beach in Hawaii. I would not only recommend it I would definitely continue to buy this SUV as long as they make it. You can't go wrong Test Drive One Today and you to will agree."
"Never thought I would but i love it. I use mine for many uses, from flea marketing to treacherous dirt roads covered in ice with steep inclines, to long distance family drives. I can fit anyone or anythign into it at a moments notice. It drives wonderfully, lots, power when I need it, and over all comfortable, except that the drivers seat is a little hard for my taste, but I can adjust it any way I want. I love the rear air, my mechanic husband was dubious about owning one but he is happy i bought it now, (he's never had to work on it) I will probably never go back."
