"I love my Dodge Durango for several reasons...Hauling extra kids...up to 7 psgrs, hauling large items like saddles, furniture etc, and the overall fun to drive reason. The only thing I don't like about it is that it is loud and the engine is noisy. Maybe that just comes with a V8."
"My Durango has 103,000 miles and I still trust it to go just about anywhere. No serious problems as of yet, other than replacing the wheel bearing (the wheel was about to fall off apparently). Poor mileage in my opinion (12 city miles). Comfort is key with this SUV, as I am well over 6 Ft. tall and still have plenty of leg room."
"Bought my 01 SLT+ in 2003 with 25k miles. Repairs have been minimal, and unless you are towing alot I recommend the 4.7 motor which uses newer overhead cam technology as opposed to the older 5.2/5.9 engines. Pay no mind to the sludging issues you night hear about with the 4.7. As long as the one you buy has been serviced properly and you continue that trend, you will be fine. I recommend synthetic oil such as Mobil 1 which is what I run.
Also, if you get 4wd I recommend the AWD (NV244 transfer case) 4x4 system. The mileage penalty is neglible, and why not have all of the extra 4x4 hardware you paid for working for you 24/7.
Overall a very capable rig for the bucks. Economy is the only weakpoint IMO.
10-12 around town, and 16-18 on the hwy. I average 13-14 in mixed driving which I feel is not bad for a 4800 pound vehicle.
Forgot to mention the rear heat/ac option. If you live in an area where it gets real cold or real hot, this is a worthwhile option as the interior space is quite abit to manage for just the front system"
