"I own a 2000 Daewoo Lanos hatchback and it runs great. I bought it new in 2000 and the car hasn't put me down once. I replaced the timing belt at about 55k miles and got regular oil changes and servicing. The only things I've had to worry about are replacing a rusting muffler and replacing the cam shaft sensor. The cam shaft sensor problem turned out to be the subject of a factory recall. Anyway, the car runs great and I haven't put a lot of cash into it. I guess if you take care of the car, the car will take care of you. The insurance is cheap, the mileage is decent, and the general upkeep costs of this car are low. My Lanos is a 5-speed and gets about 27-33 mpg. I've taken it from South Carolina to New York and Florida without any problems. It still runs great and the air conditioner is still nice and cold. For one or two people, it's quite comfortable. This car is good for commuters or for people without families. Small children will be fine in the backseat, but I doubt adults would like it on long trips. The car handles corners well and has more peppiness than what you would expect from a car of this size. In terms of luxuries and conveniences, there's not much to expect from a car in this price range, so it's not fair to complain about the lack of options like cruise control and power windows. It is basically competent, basic transportation. And that suits my needs just fine. It would be nice if they included a tachometer in the 5-speed versions of the car, but alas. All in all, this is a great car. I'm happy I bought it and that it still works so well after seven years. I would like to keep this car for another three years or so before I finally trade up. I think my Daewoo will hold up until that time!"

""I bought my Lanos from my parents in 2003 for $3000. They bought it new in March of 2000, so I know the complete history of the car. There are many things I don't like about the car: no working cup holders, the cable inside of my door that moves the window up and down snapped in half leaving my window stuck in my door, the gas mileage isn't what you would expect from a compact car that gets blown off the highway by motorcycles, 0 - 60 in 18.9 seconds, and the cables that control my cold/hot and foot/window in my dash broke so I only have hot air in my face, if you drive in the rain and for an extended period of time and park your car the drum brakes for the rear wheels may lock up, every replacement park cost 1/5 the value of the car. It looks like a shoe. For the price..I guess it's not that bad""

"i love this car i have had it for about 4 years and it has been awsome. the only thing i have had to have done to it was the timming belt replaced but it was only bc the warrenty was about up and i didnt want to have to pay out of pocket for it. but other than that i love it. i put a performance chip in it and now it get 46 mpg city and added 75 horses...i also added the dixie horn to it. u should see the looks i get. but it is an amazing car and i hope chevy brings it back."

"I bought this from the deal brand new on April 2001. It had 50 miles on it. Other than a flat tire I did not have a major single problem with the vehicle until January 2006 when the timing belt broke. I had over 65k driven on it, so it basically was my fault. Cost me $2k to fix the broken valves. After that, the AC broke and I am not going to be fixing that one anymore. Right now I have 85k miles on it, and it still dirves fine. No mechanical problems. I wish I could use this car for 3 more years and I feel that with little expected maintenance this is not an unreasonable wish. Even though I paid full dealer price for this car, I think I received the value back. Six years later with no problems (other than timing belt and AC) for such a cheap car, I think it is acceptable."
