"When it first came out I wanted it badly, I am glad I waited to purchase this car, The first thing they had to replace was the Smog stuff that was under warranty, Then 3 months later I had to replace Air Conditioning metal hoses - A really bad design. cost over $600 to fix It still to this day keeps acting up. 2 years from purchasing and less than 100,000 miles the Transmission went out that was a $3600 charge and on top of that the Motor mounts broke $400 and since then I have replace a Cam sensor $100, Ignition sensor $100, Water pump Timing Belt $600.00, Air fan $150.00, Motor Fan assembly $650.00 - Totaling over $6200.00 in 4 years - I purchased for $5500 + traded my 1998 Dodge Caravan for it. Nice looking Car.. But A major LEMON when I bought it!!! They should use the body and put on a Toyota Prius drive train. I still own this car only because I have to much into it. and at least I know it's gonna work for a while. It should last me at least 100,000 mile.. The Transmission is under warranty."
Pros: "A good value for the money. Heating system."
Cons: "A/C not at its peak."

"Actually my wife's car (our second car) but I drive it often, and really enjoy the experience. Despite the high mileage, the interior is almost like new, and the exterior is very good. Still has a little zip to it; and the gas mleage is acceptable.
No long trips with it; mostly short ones and in-town drives."
Cons: "Would like a little better turning radius especial"

"Bought this car brand new in March of 2001 after being on a waiting list for a year to get it.
I have logged 208,000 miles with it and while I have had to do the basic maintenance and did replace the timing belt, radiator and clutch (it's a 5 speed), it was nothing that I didn't expect to do if I drove the car this long.
With 208,000 it does burn a little oil so I have to watch that, but it still flies through DEQ testing every two years and gets a remarkable 29 MPG! All this and it still has the original battery after 13 years and the battery is doing just fine.
Considering what I paid in 2001 for this car brand new and taking into account the thousands and thousands of trouble free miles I've driven, I can truthfully state that out of the 30+ vehicles I've owned, that my PT Cruiser was the very best hands down.
Now I know this doesn't apply to all PT owners and I'm sorry for that however it worked for my wife and me.
"This car has been a great vehicle for my family and still is as reliable as ever. We've driven this car for over 218,000 miles and it is as reliable as ever and has NEVER let us down. Whether we are heading to the beach, or to work, this car gets great mileage even with the a/c on, and the heated seats for the winter is great too, she still shines like a diamond when washed and people can't believe the mileage on it. Just keep up with the oil changes and timing belt and you are good to go. We'll probaly keep it in the family forever"
