I own this car - My approximate mileage is 131,000
overall rating 8 of 10rating detailsPros: "Good price, fun car, good engine"
Cons: "Gas mileage, no door lock button inside"
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 8
"We love our little cruiser. The past two years have been tough financially so between my husband and I who both work and go to school, we shared our 2005 PT Cruiser (putting 60,000 miles on it in that time). We drive it up or down our muddy driveway at least 4 times a day. Recently our timing belt broke at an intersection, I started the car back up when it stalled and drove to the nearest parking lot (a big no no!) but our engine survived! No valves were harmed! We have one tough little car! My complaint is the gas mileage, it's better than a large SUV or truck, but gets about the same as a mini-van."

I own this car - My approximate mileage is 101,000
overall rating 9 of 10rating detailsPros: "Sporty good looks, comfortable, cargo room, quiet"
Cons: "gas mileage, mediocre stereo"
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 9
"I'm on my second PT Cruiser and still very satisfied with the vehicle overall. No problems with my 2001 model until it died at 120,000 because of overheating. Bought my current 2008 Touring model with 16,000 mi and no troubles at all except normal maintainence. I've had both on long trips and were comfortable and roomy with four people and luggage. Its like a small truck with cargo room. I hauled a washing machine once and the hatch closed no problem. Only complaint is the very low gas mileage which is surprising for a small 4 cyl car. Mixed driving i get 18.5-19 mpg. It should be in the 20's and around 30 highway but it is a heavy car for the engine size. I can't say I regret owning the PT at all. I've been very lucky with mine. I used to think they looked silly but they grow on you once you live with them and find out what a good little car it is. Too bad they didn't redesign it and keep making them."

"I recently purchased a 2001 Cruiser and am pleasantly surprised. Still in very good shape (thanks to previous owner), rides smooth and I love the antique look of the interior. Very nice car, the only hang up is the low gas millage. Over all, I am very satisfied with the vehicle."

I own this car - My approximate mileage is 152,000
overall rating 5 of 10rating detailsPros: "Roomy, handles nicely, decent gas mileage"
Cons: "Expensive to repair, no lighter, engine design"
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 3
"I bought this 2004 Cruiser two years ago (2011) off a used lot for about $5000. I needed something affordable, and I needed it quickly. It drives relatively smoothly and handles well. It's also nice and roomy in both the front and back. When I laid the seats down, I managed to haul a rattan and glass dining table and all four chairs across town... with a little creative packing! The first thing to go was the A/C. The hose went to pot and it should've been a relatively simple fix, except finding a replacement was almost impossible. The stereo was the next thing to go, although that was mostly my choice. It just wasn't very nice, so I upgraded. The next major issue was the power steering. That was a financial nightmare because of the ridiculous design under the hood. The engine had to come out to replace the power steering pump and hose! That's not cheap. I'm finding that repairs in general for this thing aren't as easy as they should be. In all, it's been a decent car, but I'm giving it such a low rating because maintenance is so difficult and expensive. This car is going to end up costing way more than it's worth when all is said and done. I was hoping to buy this car, take care of it, accept repair issues as they naturally came about, and keep it nearly forever. It seems my plan is costing me more than I would have paid for a bit more expensive vehicle... or even a slightly older model vehicle. Next time I buy a car, it's going to be pre-2000 since those suckers seem to have built to last!"
