2007 Chevrolet Silverado (Classic) 1500 Regular Cab Review

By

It's hard to let a good thing go, especially when it's making money hand over fist. Perhaps that's why Chevrolet is reticent to let go of the long-running Silverado platform. Despite the arrival of the all-new 2007 Silverado, the old model will continue in all its glory, re-badged as the Silverado Classic. Like its twin, the GMC Sierra Classic, the Silverado Classic will continue as a full-line pickup with 1500, 2500 and 3500 models available in Regular Cab, Extended Cab and Crew Cab configurations. Also remaining in the lineup are the Hybrid Silverados, featuring an electric starter motor between the engine and transmission to help save fuel by allowing the engine to shut down when stopped, and the high-performance SS models.

You'll Like This Car If...

If you need a serious work truck that can haul loads of dirt or tow a horse trailer, there is a Silverado Classic with your name on it. The Silverado Classic's interior can be quite plush, but the price starts to climb when it's so equipped.

You May Not Like This Car If...

If you are not used to piloting a large pickup, the Silverado Classic may be a bit too much truck for you. The Silverado Classic also lacks some of the newer conveniences, such as GPS navigation and side-curtain airbags.

What's Significant About This Car?

No major changes for 2007.

Driving the Silverado (Classic) 1500 Regular Cab

Driving Impressions When Chevy people say their trucks are "like a rock," they're not kidding. The Silverado Classic is as rigid and inflexible as an iron rod. Even over unpaved roads, the...

truck's suspension remains composed enough to keep most vibrations out of the cabin.
When not burdened with a heavy load, the Silverado Classic's performance is practically muscle-car quick, especially when accelerating from a standing stop.

The four-speed-automatic transmission delivers crisp, precise shifts and features a Tow/Haul mode that limits gear hunting when towing or navigating steep elevations.
The Silverado Classic's improved power steering results in less play and a heavier feel that delivers more feedback to the driver. The brakes, too, have been improved with a much firmer pedal feel that requires far less travel to engage the beefy disc brakes.

OnStar
Though it might not seem like a big deal, the OnStar system can be a life saver, literally. Should the airbag deploy, OnStar is immediately notified and contacts you to determine if assistance is needed.

SS Model
The 367-horsepower, high-performance SS model combines the utility of a pickup with the heart of a NASCAR racer.

2007 Chevrolet Silverado (Classic) 1500 Regular Cab Details
Interior

The Silverado Classic's interior is nice, but starting to show its age. A large amount of black plastic on the dash face and the lower-quality plastics used on the dash and door make the interior look a bit generic. On the other hand, the Silverado Classic's seats are wonderfully comfortable, especially when covered in leather. Those who regularly carry two or more people will want to choose the Crew Cab for its roomy rear seat; the Extended Cab is best used for shorter trips or, better yet, as a secured storage area.

Exterior

Chevy trucks are always easily recognizable, no matter how old. The Silverado Classic maintains this tradition with a boxy middle section tempered by rounded edges and the familiar Chevrolet split grille. Even though its design is older than the F150 and Dodge Ram, the Silverado Classic strikes a powerful stance, especially when outfitted with the Z71 package.

Notable Equipment
Standard Equipment

Base Work Truck models come with a V6 engine, tilt steering wheel and steel wheels. The 1LT adds cruise control, CD player and air conditioning, and 2LT and LTZ models get more standard features plus a V8 engine. Various models can be equipped with even larger engines, including a 5.3-liter or 6.0-liter V8.

Optional Equipment

Options for the Silverado Classic are too numerous to list. Beyond the various bed lengths, wheelbases and cab configurations, you can opt for the StabiliTrak stability management program, a number of off-road and towing packages and the OnStar telematics system. The SS package adds a 6.0-liter high-output Vortec V8 with 20-inch chrome wheels, high-performance suspension, 3.73 rear axle and automatic locking differential.

My Baby

"Excellent truck throughout! Pulls, drives amazing! Looks great inside and out! The only complaint I have is the front bumper. I have had this truck for 2 years and within the first few months of owning it, the front bumper developed small rust spots all over it. Otherwise a perfect truck!"

"This truck has been used as personal transportation only. Used for pulling trailer to move household goods. Buying this truck is like buying a heavily discounted new truck."

A lot of money for not a lot of truck.

Pros: "Runs for now."

Cons: "Feels cheap."

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 2

"After owning a 2004HD with an 8.1 liter engine and Alison transmission, this truck just feels cheap. I miss my old truck. It felt like a jet, rode like a dream and had all of the interior comforts and exterior looks. Bose sterio, heated leather seats, Name it, it had it. I bought this for the wrong reason. I wanted the extra 3 miles per gal that I get. I use this truck for work. It has tool boxes and a ladder rack. I get about 12/gal. The HD only got 8.5. The HD was a beast though. This 2012 k1500 is a dependable farmer. My biggest grip is with the interior. Its falling apart. The AUX plug in broke in the first year, as did the consol latch and the drivers seat cheap lumbar support. The seats are uncomfortable-plain and simple. The stereo isnt Bose. It stinks. FM reception is poor. Sound quality poor. I'll be shopping around a little more carefully next time. After being a chevy man for 30 years. Maybe its time for a change. Lastly; what gets my goat. 2013, chevy finally adds a rear camera. Hurray! What took so long? They added the step in the bumper also. Heres a question: When are they going to allow me to connect to their poor quality stereo systemwith my MP3 via bluetooth. Saving that for 2017. Moving at lightning speed, as always. Wake up GM. these trucks are costly. Now give us something for the money."

Pros: "Durable and reliable! Pretty good resale value."

Cons: "Recalls, defects, overall cost lil high/fuel use"

my 5th Silverado and counting, if they ever get the gas milage up on these things or if the alt fuel is more widely sold I'll buy, til then I'm done.

"The first Silverado I ever drove was a lowered, 3 toned completely and fully loaded custom 1992 Extended/Crew black/maroon/purple Silverado. I drove it like I owned it. The selling point for me was when during the summer of 1993 myself, two of my brothers and my father piled in that puppy and we drove for 33 hours from Moreno Valley California to Savannah GA, stopping only for potty breaks, food, fuel and swapping out drivers if not at one of the previously mentioned stops; it was great, so roomy, two of us slept while two of us drove, one laid the passenger seat back and slept the fourth in the back laid out like on a airline flat lay out bed and it was a comfortable ride, some 2,489 miles later we arrived and after Savannah only one of my brothers and I continued the cross country drive, we continued to Long Island NY, passed thru Washington DC for the 30th Anniversary of the March on WA. that was amazing timing didn't plan it, but I was there; then we drove to Minnetonka MN and completed our journey making a Beeline from MN back to my home town of Riverside California. I forget the total miles, total days was 23 I believe short and sweet, the key attraction for me is that Silverado was tough and fuel efficient, but mostly I loved that first Silverado because it made that trip so fun and so worth every mile we passed; and I've been sold on the Silverado ever since! I purchased my very own and first Silverado off the Riverside CA. lot in 1997, it was a vehicle that was purchased and brought back due to the financing falling through, had less then 3000 miles and they took $4,000 off the price; now that I think about it I was kind of a novice to the purchasing game and probably should have got more then that off right? Lol, they say the second it drives off the lot the value drops like 10-25%??? Anyway I loved that and every Silverado ever since. I'm on my 5th Truck now, all Silverado's and only purchased one used, not one of them did I ever have much of any serious or minor mechanical problems with, hence my 5th one!!! If not for having my current Silverado lifted/modified at the dealer and them not telling me they would never be able to buy it back with any modifications, besides that killing the fuel efficiency, I'd be keeping #5 and not selling it. I love that truck, I love Silverado, however the milage on it just killed me and I'm currently dealing with a party who seems really interested and I hope this deal goes thru I have 5 vehicles and this one has sat in my driveway for sale now over a year and a half, has only 20,969 miles on it, only put 3,000 of those on it in the past year and a half because it just drinks the gas. When the gas went back down below $3 I actually thought of never selling it, but now with gas back up over $4 nope she's got to go the sooner the better. On a scale of 1-10 how much do I love the Silverado, it's an 11+ hopefully the Alt fuel will become more readily available and for cheaper than regular gas, that would make me purchase my 6th Silverado 100%, but for now I'm done with the V8! (8-4-15)"

my 5th Silverado and counting, if they ever get the gas milage up on these things or if the alt fuel is more widely sold I'll buy, til then I'm done.

Good vehicle will recommend to a family member.

Pros: "good acceleration, very smooth riding at first, no"

Cons: "ride is deteriorating, throttle body caused troubl"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 9

"The limited slip differential went out at 40+k and the throttle body sensor at around 92+k. The dealer replaced both at no charge. The check engine light came on a couple of times at first but dealer fixed. I had a recall which didn't apply. Overall it has been fine. Not perfect but fine."
