"I find that the vehicle has lasted a long time for the value of price paid. I purchased this 2005 in September 2006 with 12,000 miles on it and now I have 180,000 miles. I keep maintenance up to date. I have replaced the normal wear and tear items (brakes, etc.). I replaced ball joints, U-Joints, Mid-Shift bearing, etc. The only major issue is around 100,000 miles I needed a new distributor. This truck uses a roter and cap, but last about 100,000 miles. I would liked to be able to sit a little higher, there is a lot of head-room above the driver, and passenger, so is good if you're really tall. I'm 5' 7"."

"I bought used in 2011. Had some defects due to prior ownership neglect, and lack of maintenance. I fixed the heat controls, had new tie-rods, upper ball joints, pitman-arm, idler-arm, and steering box replaced at 200K(truck has 4"-lift with 35's under it so did mainly for durability more than necessity) and also both front hub assemblies(the standard hub does not like the oversized tires, so I have changed out the hubs twice as can't find aftermarket heavy-duty ones)... Also and alternator and battery, but most of these repairs were caused by poor maintenance and were done around 200,000mis ... Overall for being 16yrs-old and 230,000 on it it still runs strong and has never left me stranded. All the power options still work. Mine has the 5.3l that still has great compression(checked at 225,000) on all cylinders, transmission shifts smooth, quiet in the cab on the freeway. Just a great rig and I have owned a few truck from brand new on down... I will hang onto this truck for many years"
"I'm giving extra credit to this truck because of the age. Although far from perfect, the engine starts every time and performs well. Despite the poor condition of the suspension the handling is good. However there is no excuse for the low quality of the body assembly and chassis. Suspension parts should not fall off as you drive down the road. Doors are supposed to open unless there is body damage to prevent their operation. Heavy tail light assemblies should be held in place by more than two small screws. Parts do wear out over time, but everything I've listed could have been prevented by proper welds, better hardware quality and adequate engineering."
"This truck has been beyond imagination in all aspects. The fuel economy, power, performance, comfort & reliability are all superb. Other than normal maintenance, at over 141,000 miles, there have been no repairs. Just used for a 8,200 mile coast to coast trip with zero issues, getting 17 to 24 MPG. (Some weather conditions were horrible). Keep in mind that is a 4x4 with the Z-71 Off Road Package running BFG Rugged Trail all terrain tires! The 5.3 engine just can not be beat, with ample reserve power (even tows a 30' 5th wheel camper). I have also talked with other Silverado owners that have had similar experiences--this is one great truck.f"
