Pros: "Will sell at below market price."

"I am original owner. Car has only 99,000 miles, and I have complete service and repair record. Runs very well, tires with only 10,000 miles on them and battery 1.5 year old. New catalytic converter installed 4 months ago. Gets 38 miles on highway in summer and 30 in town. Average about 35 MPG. Some cosmetic issue due to age, such as a cracked windshield and slight rust, and passenger-side window roller needing a screw. Otherwise car is clean and no know mechanical issues."

"We bought this car off the lot to use primarily as a run around town vehicle. After 15 years, I still get 40 miles to the gallon, mostly in town, some highway. It is surprisingly roomy inside. A little low, my husband was disabled and as he deteriorated it got harder for him to get in and out, but not impossible. The only warranty work we had done was a switch in the fan. With regular oil, filter, tire rotation, we never experienced any major problems, nothing you would not expect to have to deal with as a car gets older and needs a little more TLC. I know several other Metro owners and they have had the same experience. I think Chevy hit one out of the ball park with this car."

Pros: "Gas milage, interior looks, front seat leg space"

Cons: "small back seat, no power steering, no cruise"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 9

"I've owed this car for about two years, I bought it with 80,000 miles roughly. I used to only drive it on trips but now I drive it daily, so for miles are getting put on. So far I have had no problems at all besides the left front speaker rattles a bit. (no big deal) Pretty solid car for being in extreme salt during Iowa winters. Just have to take care of it. There is no power steering and no cruise which I would have loved to have on this car. The part I love the most is the MPG. It is the best I've ever had by far. I get about 35 MPG on regular gas with out ethanol. Engine is very peppy and I havent had any problems with it at all so far. I change oil every 3000 miles. (they are known to burn oil, but mine does not) All in all if you want a pretty basic small sedan that treats your wallet good, then this is a car for you. Also a good first car or early car."

Front of the Metro

"Being the third Metro I've owned, I've expected about the same from it as I've gotten from the past Metros. These are decently reliable vehicles. Minor faults there aren't many, but there are a few major faults with these vehicles. Firstly, the body at the control arms rust out and cause problems; control arms breaking free at large bumps. This is definitely something to watch for in the future for purchasing. Always check at these points before purchase. The G10 engine (1.0 liter 3-cylinder) tends to burn exhaust valves, and more often than not cylinder 3 exhaust valve. This is caused by oil changes that have gone on too long and bad exhaust system; leaks, no muffler, missing pieces. Minor problems include bad synchros from 2nd-3rd when downshifting as owners do not know how to rev-match when going to a lower gear. Rear wheel wells tend to rust out as well along with the spare tire bowl. Blower motor speed switch tends to break, however, this can be remedied with a zip tie around the switch or installing an aftermarket switch. Fuel gauge and speedometer gauge can read improperly. Dash lights may not work due to faulty instrument panel dimmer switch. This can be fixed by jumping a power wire to the ground wire. (You will lose your capability to adjust brightness, but will regain your instrument cluster lights.) I purchased a 1998 Chevrolet Metro with the 5 speed. When I looked at it I noticed a fair amount of rust at the control arms, and the engine had quite a knocking to it (connecting rod bearing 2). The oil pan leaked, but not too badly, and exhaust was very loud due to being rigged up. I drove the vehicle like that for 5 months. It's still going. I have, however, done all the maintenance myself, save for a pipe welded up from the catalytic converter back. I've done rear breaks (drums, shoes, hardware), wheel bearings, connecting rod bearings, oil pan, spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, distributor rotor, coolant temperature sensor, cooling fan switch, all fluids changed besides brake fluid, thermostat, alternator belt, battery, timing belt, timing belt tensioner, and general lubrication. Most of the fixes have been preventative maintenance that was neglected by the previous owner. Vehicle has been exceptionally reliable, will always start, will always get me from point A to B even with 60 Psi of pressure in cylinder 3. If you can pick one up for $250, put $300 into it, you will have yourself a great running vehicle for years to come."

"REPLACED HEATER SWITCH UNDER WARRANTY. REPLACED TIMING BELT, ALTHOUGH OLD BELT LOOKED GOOD. OTHERWISE ONLY TIRES AND BRAKES ONCE. MPG DROPS TO 45 AT 75MPH. IS VERY PEPPY."

"Bought ours in HI with 75,000 mi from original owners and found that this car averages 41 mpg. Now it's my daughters first car, 2000 Chevy Geo Metro nick named, "Skittle" and it's like our family pet now."
