My 01

"This is my 3rd Lumina in a row. Found it with 63,000 miles in excellent condition with new brakes and battery. It gives me 20-30 MPG depending city or hwy and handles great."

Pros: "A real workhorse, giving me YEARS of service"

Cons: "City MPG not as good as newer vehicles."

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 8

"I bought this car used in 1999 with about 30,000 miles on it. Since then I have driven it about 90,000 miles in 16 years. The Lumina has to be one of the best Chevrolets ever built. In addition to being a great car for me, I still see a lot of them on the road in my local area. Not bad for a series of cars built in the late 1990s. Reliability has been pretty good for a low-priced car of this age. Currently, I am dealing with a problem with the brake lights. It appears to be an intermittent electrical issue but my mechanic will keep working on it until it's fixed. There are a few small oil leaks, but as of now I would not be surprised if I got several more years of service out of it. At the time these cars were manufactured, this particular V6 engine was considered to be one of GM's best, and mine has stood the test of time. I had the transmission pan pulled at about the 100,000 mile level. Mechanic reported no issues. With its overdrive transmission I have often gotten 30 MPG on the highway. City mileage is typically a lot less, only in the teens."

Pros: "Runs great, minimal issues, drives smooth"

Cons: "paint chips away around trunk area"

"This car, even at almost 20 years old, still runs great! The only complaint I have is the paint chipping away. This seems to be an issue for this particular car, since I've seen this same issue on other white ones of it's year. But, as far as get up and go, it's got it!"

Pros: "Very reliable, simple analog controls"

Cons: "No cup holders, poor turning radius"

"This is my second Lumina. I had a '96 which I bought in 2004. I drove it for 9 years with minimal repairs. I liked it so much I bought this '98 Lumina. So far, after a year of driving it, I've had to replace a bypass hose. It cost $8.00. These are very reliable cars if maintained."

"Ive had this car since 2005 when i started buying high end luxury cars to just drive this in winter. 10 years and over 110k later i am completely satisfied. I put some $$ into it but it has with stood the rigors of Ohio elements and also served its purpose. I will be letting it go after this winter, but this car has been on numerous road trips and has stood strong and tall to frigid temps and all."
