About Chevrolet Colorado Crew Cab

As gasoline prices continue to edge upwards, the compact pickup is beginning to look mighty attractive. Though it can't tow or haul like a full-size Silverado, the little Colorado makes an attractive alternative for those whose truck use tends to be more recreational than occupational. The Colorado's new 185-horsepower four-cylinder and 242-horsepower five-cylinder engines provide good power and excellent fuel economy, while a four-wheel-drive option allows the compact pickup to tackle deep snow and venture off-road. Although the Colorado's cab and bed are not the largest in this segment (and its turning radius is uncommonly wide), the truck remains competitive with Ford's Ranger series and, to a lesser extent, the Toyota Tacoma, Nissan Frontier and Dodge Dakota.

"Bought my Colorado Crew new in 2005. I have had only three issues over 6.5 years. Two recall issues, the AC control issue, and the tail light recall issue. The other problem was a broken bolt on the exhaust manifold. Chevy fixed it and no more problems. I have done several mods to the truck that have given it more power and better fuel economy. Contrary to someone on here saying that you should buy a Ford, they have just as many issues as this truck has had, and they DO NOT get nearly the gas mileage. I know this because I traded my 2004 ford Ranger after 14000 miles and seven months because it broke a tranny and never got over 18 MPG. I get 18 around town in the Rado, and 23 on the highway! I would buy another one, and recommend it to anyone who asks."

"I have a 2005 Chevy Colorado Work Truck. I would have liked more but this is all I could afford at the time. I purchased it used and despite minor set backs shes still running. Ive had my A/C resistor burn out, tail lights burn out. Everything was covered under warranty then so it wasn't a problem. However since then. I have drove my truck through countless off road excursions, drove it through a pond where the water was splashing over the hood and made it out the other side. I did have chains on so... that is the only reason i made it FYI.... If you need traction throw some wait on the back. I have about an 800 lb wheeler that fits easily in the back with the ezlock tailgate midway so i dont have to use straps. I do have a rack to protect the back window though. Ive been able to drive in about a foot of snow out on a lake for icefishing. my Truck is only 2wd so keep that in mind. I was able to drive all the way out to a campsite and back with no problems. A F-250 lifted with tires got stuck and had to dig himself out and use chains and still got stuck... soo that should measure up. The only problems ive had is power when hauling my wheeler. When I get on the steep mountain roads, on the hwy I cant get out of 4th gear. And if its really steep I have to shift down to second. Not often though. She still can be driven like a sports car. In the rain I can smoke the tires in the first few gears, power slide the corners etc. Still have fun for not so much money. As far as comfort... im 6'5 and very few vehicles dont hurt my back on long hauls... this is one of them. Its superb, I often drive it from ny to FL with no problems. Ive slept in it... which isnt a bed but it cane be done! The top speed was limited to 100 mph with the stock 205 tires which I drove till there bald. Now I have 235's which make the speedometer 7% slower then actuality so the limiter kicks in at 93 mph which is actually 100 mph according to the GPS. Overall, if this is all you can afford... then it will get the job done and still leave you with comfort. I also get like 19/22 mpg. Thanks"

"I purchased this truck in July 2004. I opted for the CrewCab with I5, automatic, 3:73 gears and towing pakage 2WD with traction control. Great performance with the lower gears, but gets its best 32.1 MPG at 60 MPH or lower. Out of the box stock with the Z85 suspension the body roll was dangerous, so I installed a 1.25" front and a 1" rear swaybars from BellTech and now handles as good or better than a Z71. Installed a hard tonneau cover which added 3 MPG, and a bed extender for hauling longer loads. I just purchased a set of 245/70/15 Yokohama Avid tires for a better stance. I purchased an extra set of factory mags off a 4x4 and run studded WinterForce tires from NOV thru MAR. And for additional music I am running a VRFM8 fm modulator with 2 GB flashdrive into the factory stereo and six speakers. I puchased this vehicle to be my last, and maintain it impecably. I have had the front end realigned once when under warranty and will probably make it a regular habit every two years. It is an awesome truck especially since it is Sunburst Orange in color. With that traction control and studded winterforce tires in the winter months, I don't miss the 4x4 at all. I have fixed the major suspension issue so it handles like a dream, except for the optional front bench seat which could be more comfortable"
