Damage

"Car is very reliable. I have kept up maintenance (have recent maintenance paperwork) and has all new tires. This car has driven me to work and back which is 25 miles one way. Cloth seats and floor rugs do not have a single tear. Dashboard is cracked and air conditioning needs service. I loved my car but needs right front body work due to damage. CAR STILL STARTS AND ENGINE SOUNDS SWEET! Radiator needs replacing. Asking $800 but will negotiate."

Pros: "Price, drivability, style, gas maileage"

Cons: "Crash worthiness, reported reliability"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 9

"I have owned 1 1989 Cavalier and two 1993 Cavaliers, all positive experiences. My '00 was prepared by the used car dealer very honestly with new exhaust and brakes and everything working. I like the size and the style of this car, a very big draw for me. Being a Z-24 it has sporty suspension which is slightly firm which I like. I especially like the fuel mileage. I drive mostly country-type driving, not highway, not city and I honestly have averaged slightly over 29 MPG. I don't need the back seat so I plan to remove it to help the MPG number a tad. Being the car is 14 years old I like that it is slightly unique, cheap from a purchase, insurance and property tax perspective, and if some Bozo hits me or a Cretin door-dings me or worse in a parking lot I won't have a stroke. Some surveys say 2000 Cavaliers have reliability issues and this Cavalier 'generation' is on the low side of crash-worthiness but I'm happy to play the percentages as I drive pretty conservatively. I own a 2011 Malibu which I take on long trips and this car will extend the life of my Malibu. I do know there are probably other vehicle selections which would be better technically but I am satisfied with my choice; [yes my vain appreciation of the styling] the Cavalier is performing fully how I had hoped it would. Should my feelings change I will write another review."

Pros: "great price, works great"

Cons: "not a lot of room for bigger people"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"It looks sporty, drives very well too. It doesn't cost too much which can be great for people like me, but it doesn't feel cheap. Mine doesn't have any fancy features, I use manual windows and the same with locks..... no fancy stereo or electric seats or anything. BUT thats why i got it, it doesn't have all these features (but those can be purchased later on), but what it does have is reliability. Never had a single issue with it and i have had it for a few years now. Also the MPG isn't too shabby!"

Pros: "Cheap, Mechanically Sound"

Cons: "Cheaply Made"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 7

"The car is very cheaply put together, hence its inability to retain any value. Although the interior and body is so cheap, as long as you keep up the preventative maintenance then it will stay mechanically sound. It is comfortable to drive because it is so close to the ground. I would recommend buying this car as since mine only has 87,000 miles on it and will last until at least 200,000 as long as I take care of it properly. It is worth 2,300 now and was bought at 75,000 miles for only 2,500 dollars. That is why the value rating is so high. The car is cheap and will last a long while mechanically."
