"I'm the second owner of this 4x4 Chevy. We've been thru floods, blizzards, Ice storms, mud, beaches and dunes. My faithful friend has never let me down, as long I keep it's healthy hunger for gas fed. I love this truck....12/14 mpg city 18mpg hwy. if you stay 65mph. The best way to own this wonderful truck is to own a paid off one. I'd hate to make a monthly payment then feed it too."

"I bought my 1996 Chevy c-1500 "Silverado" pick-up truck used in 2009 with 225k miles on it. Obviously has been well maintained. I've driven it an additional 50k over the past four years and continue to drive now in 2013. I have only had to do mostly minor repairs here and there. Like alternator, water pump, belt and hoses. The only really major problem I've had was the transmission, which I had replaced. The original engine still runs very strong, doesn't burn any oil and has been very dependable. The only really "Bad" thing I can say about this vehicle is the FUEL PUMP. Not only the fact that I've had to have it , fuel pump, replaced four times over the past four years. The previous owner had it replaced several times during his ownership. The worst part is the location of said fuel pump. It is located inside the fuel tank, which makes for a very difficult replacement by the owner. The tank has to be totally dropped out from under the truck. This procedure really should be done by a licensed mechanic which makes the cost a little higher. So be fore warned! It has left me on the side of the road a few times due to the obvious bad pump design. Other than that, the truck drives great and is very comfortable."

"Now that there's room in the driveway again I wanted a pickup truck. Mine is actually a '99, but looks like '98 with an engine of that year, a 5.0 V8 with an automatic transmission. Wanted a manual, but they're almost impossible to find with 4WD. I bought it in April 2013 with 156K on it. It runs great - the 5.0 V8 is fine for me. It will mostly be used for dump runs and hauling firewood. I'm used to driving a Subaru so gas consumption seems excessive - not a big deal though. I think the '94(?) to '98 design is one of the best. The truck is a pleasure to drive - there's some kind of charm and appeal to it. I'm surprised how well it handles - it doesn't feel ponderous. Visibility is excellent. I'm used to bucket seats so the split bench seat felt different, but comfortable. Doesn't ride like my son's 2009 Dodge Ram - not a complaint. Overall enjoyable to drive. Bought it with a few known defects which I repaired. The heater A/C blower only ran on high, replaced the resistor circuit. Also replaced a dome light switch. These parts were still in stock at the local GM dealership. The dash vents didn't work. Fixed by repairing a possible leak in a junction or splice of a vacuum line. I can't accurately rate reliability since I've only owned it a few weeks, but it seems mechanically sound - certainly doesn't feel like it's got 150+K miles on it. Reading the other reviews leads me to believe this truck is a good choice."
