Well-heeled sunchasers will have something new to lust after this year when a convertible Volante version of the stunning Aston Martin DBS arrives in dealers in the fall. While pricing won't be revealed until the car makes it formal debut at the Geneva Auto Salon next week, the British luxury marque has confirmed all of the other pertinent facts about this striking 2+2. Like the DBS coupe, the new Volante will be powered by a hand-built 5.9-liter V12 that makes 510 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque, 85 percent of which is on hand from just 1,500 rpm. That's sufficient muscle to send this 3,990-pound supercar from 0-62 mph in a claimed 4.3 seconds and carry it on to a 191-mph top speed. Transmission choices will include both the standard six-speed manual transaxle and an optional Touchtronic 2 paddle-shifted automatic, also rear-mounted and with six cogs. Completing its formidable dynamic mix, the new Volante comes with a sport-tuned adaptive variable suspension that includes a Track Mode for its stability/traction control. Massive race-bred carbon-ceramic disc brakes provide suitably definitive stopping power, assisted by super-sticky Pirelli P Zero tires on 20-inch light-alloy wheels.

Crowning the DBS Volante's carbon-fiber and aluminum bodywork is Aston Martin's quietest and quickest power top ever. Raising and lowering in just 14 seconds via a five-piston hydraulic pump that's "cocooned" in a special noise and vibration isolation chamber, this fully-insulated fabric element tucks neatly under a slick sculpted tonneau cover. The Volante package also includes a Roll-Over Protection System that pops up a pair of hoops in the event of a rollover.

Inside, the DBS Volante puts a high-velocity spin on its luxuriously appointed cabin. Rich leather wraps torso-hugging, power-adjustable heated sport buckets while matrix alloy and carbon-fiber trim accents directly play up its performance character. Beyond the expected bounty of power assists, the Volante's standard kit includes a dedicated Bang & Olufson BeoSound premium audio package with iPod/AUX inputs that automatically senses and compensates for the car's open/closed configuration plus an HDD navigation system.
