First Look: 2010 Jaguar XJ

By KBB.com Editors on April 24, 2009 2:37 PM
Due for a formal unveiling in London on July 9, Jaguar has released a slightly revealing image of the totally redesigned 2010 version of its premium sedan. In a press conference at Auto Shanghai 2009, Jag's Managing Director Mike O'Driscoll also provided a few more pertinent details about the new XJ that goes on sale in December. This luxury four-door will be built on a redesigned version of the aluminum unit body structure that currently underpins the sporty XK/XKR Coupe and Convertible. Offering both standard and long-wheelbase configurations, it promises the highest level of luxury and amenities in any Jaguar ever -- including a new panorama glass roof. The new XJ will be fitted with a range of the firm's new Gen III gasoline and diesel V6 and V8 direct-injection engines in world markets, although what we'll see in the U.S beyond the current V8/Supercharged-V8 choices was not confirmed. Backing all will be a six-speed paddle-shifted automatic transmission. Beyond the panorama roof and blackout B-pillars visible in this teaser image, spy photos of various XJ prototypes show that it embodies an even more aggressive interpretation of many basic styling cues introduced on the XF.
