If you think the all-new Ford F-150 looks a lot like Ford Heavy-Duty pickup trucks, that's because it features many of the capabilities of its beefier, brawnier brothers. In fact, Ford execs are expecting a significant number of heavy-duty customers to drop down into the F-150 next time they buy a truck, taking advantage of the new vehicle's impressive towing and hauling abilities. Betting that the pickup truck buyer of the future will be even more work-oriented, Ford engineers upped towing and payload while not turning their backs on creature comforts. After driving extensively in a rigorous two days on Ford's Michigan Proving Grounds and nearby roads, we can report it is the smoothest, quietest F-150 ever by a substantial margin, and its level of overall refinement struck us as head-and-shoulders above the competitive trucks we drove. While this might not be the most auspicious time to launch a full-size pickup, in the new F-150, Ford has a warrior in the segment that will continue to defend its single-model sales leadership for years to come.
