Vehicles are Getting Too Quiet

From econo-boxes to luxo-barges, vehicles are getting quieter. That's a good thing overall, but the problem with keeping unwanted noises out of the cabin is that it can also filter out desirable sounds. Now manufacturers are piping some of the good stuff back in. The Jaguar XF, for instance, features what Ford sound-quality engineers call a "bark tube," a device that directs good sound back into the cabin, especially during acceleration.
