The fourth vehicle to attain special-edition status courtesy of the automaker's famed in-house tuner operation, the Mopar '13 Dart makes its first public appearance in the Windy City. Based on a Dart Limited, the latest Mopar-spec variant follows in the tire tracks of the Mopar '10 Dodge Challenger, Mopar '11 Dodge Charger and Mopar '12 Chrysler 300.
Like its illustrious kin, this high-profile, crisp-handling variation on Dodge's compact sedan features the Mopar's signature-look Gloss Black exterior with a full-length Mopar Blue accent stripe. In addition to a blackout grille treatment, this distinctive Dart also gets a ground-effects body kit that includes a unique front splitter, functional rear diffuser and a one-piece decklid spoiler. As a finishing touch, the Mopar '13 Dart rides on 18-inch black alloy wheels wrapped in 225/40 performance tires.
Motivating the Mopar '13 Dart is a turbocharged 160-horsepower/1.4-liter MultiAir 4-cylinder engine fitted with a sport-tuned exhaust system and backed by a 6-speed manual transmission. Handling enhancements include a full sport suspension that drops ride height by about a quarter inch, a performance-calibrated steering gear and upgraded disc brakes with heat-dissipating slotted rotors.
The high-performance persona extends to the cabin of the Mopar '13 Dart, highlighted by its well-bolstered driver's bucket covered in Mopar Blue Katzkin with black accent stitching - the opposite motif of all other seats. Also in the Mopar mix are various light-black chrome and gloss black trim elements, bright sport pedals, premium Mopar floor mats, Mopar Blue paint and lighting on the upline floating island instrument bezel and the industry-first wireless smartphone charging bay.
Like earlier Mopar limited-edition offerings, each of the 500 Mopar '13 Darts will come with a serialized dash plaque and a personalized owner kit that includes a custom-made black case filled with a unique plate that lists its complete specifications, manufacturing date and identification number, a Mopar '13 brochure and a limited-edition sketch of the vehicle signed by Mark Trostle, Chrysler Group Chief Designer for the Mopar Brand.
While final pricing for the Mopar '13 Dart has not yet been announced, production of the cars will start this spring at the company's assembly plant in Belvedere, Illinois.
