Designed to offer a more efficient and stylish alternative to a conventional full-size pickup truck, the Mitsubishi Concept GR-HEV made its debut in Geneva. This self-proclaimed Sport Utility Hybrid Truck pushes the propulsion boundaries of the 1-ton genre by a pairing a 2.5-liter Mitsubishi Clean Diesel engine with a supplemental front-mounted electric drive motor fed by a lithium-ion battery pack. Both element of the power combo are mated to an electronically controlled automatic transmission. This dedicated hybrid electric (HEV) package works in conjunction with Mitsu's full-time 4WD system that uses the automaker's Super All Wheel Control (S-AWC) to ensure outstanding traction, stability and performance under all types of road conditions.

While Mitsubishi offered little specific technical detail on the powertrain package, it did state that the symbiotic relationship between the diesel engine and electric motor provided several tangible benefits. Highlighting the list is quicker response to throttle inputs, better high-end torque, quieter operation at all speeds and significantly decreased levels of diesel emissions.

Beyond its leaner, greener hardware, the Mitsubishi Concept GR-HEV also steps up its visual game. Wrapped in sleekly tailored but still aggressive sheetmetal, it makes more conventionally styled pickups look as new as yesterday. Distinctive LED lighting elements, a low roofline, unique C-pillar treatment and trick alloy wheels that feature lightweight non-alloy spokes add even more character to its avant-garde presence.
